I visited Science Gallery Melbourne in September 2025 for the Distraction exhibition with some friends. I travelled via PTV into the city, and after arriving at Flinders Street Station, I caught the tram up to the museum. There’s a stop right out the front, as it’s directly across from Melbourne University. The gallery was easy to spot with its eye catching Distraction display set on the street corner. When we walked in, the friendly staff explained where the exhibits were. Entry was free, and there was also a cute cafe next to the reception desk. The upstairs area was really impressive. The building has such a unique design with wide stairs that double as sitting spaces lined with pillows, plus accessible options for everyone. Displays were scattered around the space, each one thought provoking and cleverly tied to digital distractions in life and presence. I loved the interactive nature of it all, everything from an AI Pictionary game to a cosy knitting room draped in fabric with rocking chairs. It was playful, immersive, and really fun to explore. After finishing upstairs, we headed downstairs to a smaller space where you could trial old school games. Flicking through the retro options gave total Game Boy vibes. It was pretty fun to see the graphics and gameplay compared to today. Toilet facilities were available on both levels, well maintained and clean, which was great. The lower level also has offices, but they’re mostly locked so it’s easy to avoid wandering in. Back at the entry level, we explored another area of mini exhibits beside the cafe. These were just as interactive and fun, and it was great to be able to swap around and try different things with friends. The cafe itself was really cute too, with a wide range of hot and cold food options and plenty of seating, though I didn’t grab anything this time. Overall, Science Gallery Melbourne is an awesome spot to check out. Some exhibits are a bit more mature and may not be kid friendly, but most of it is open and enjoyable for all ages. It’s free, super easy to get to from the CBD, and the interactive experiences make it well worth the visit. It wasn’t crowded when we went, so the atmosphere was really chilled for a Saturday afternoon. I had a great time exploring and I’m excited to see what exhibitions come through next.

Came to the Distraction Exhibition here and it was fantastic, the staff are all so friendly and engaging especially with kids. Some really thoughtful art pieces on what the information age is doing to our brains and behaviour. It’s also free so everyone should come visit. I highly recommend.

Interactive gallery that inspires thought. The current exhibit is DISTRACTION. I really enjoyed the variety of exhibited artworks. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about each piece and were open for a chat. Everything was clean and functioning. An overall excellent experience.

What a delightful space! I stopped by for the Sci-if exhibit completely by Sidney and I was really surprised with the space. The layout is very condensed but still quite large . The exhibit was really cool and I love how technology and design was incorporated! Fantastic!!
