One of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings, which famously housed David Bromley’s studio and home for 13 years, has been transformed into a unique, new events space.
Located within the iconic Prahran Arcade, the heritage building has seen many incarnations over the decades, and today this historic Chapel St icon has been lovingly restored to its former glory to become “Sophia”, a multi-faceted events space that can host every style of occasion.
Inside resides two spaces that may be used independently or together – a grand ballroom and a gorgeous space reminiscent of an art gallery. ‘The Ballroom’ (seats 100 or 150 cocktail), an elegant room with ornate chandeliers and a breathtaking balcony overlooking Chapel Street. ‘The Gallery’ (seats 200 or 350 cocktail), a remarkable 60 metre space punctuated by 26 arched windows which reveal the elaborate architectural works suspended high above the arcade.

What a venue! I had the incredible opportunity to photograph a a wedding reception at Sophia at the Prahran Arcade and it did not disappoint. The high ceilings, historic feel - partnered with an amazing stylist and the venue really was majestic. I can't wait to be back!

My partner and I had the most incredible experience celebrating our wedding at Sophia. From the very beginning, everything was seamless, organised, and genuinely enjoyable. A huge thank you to our event manager, Chloe Wood, who was absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and warm approach made planning so easy and stress-free. She truly understood our vision and brought it to life perfectly. On the night, everything ran flawlessly. The venue looked stunning, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was absolutely incredible-we received so many compliments from our guests! A special mention to Jay and the team as well – they were so attentive, accommodating, and a pleasure to deal with. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or team to celebrate such a special day. What a hidden gem this place is. From the little doorway on Chapel Street, you head upstairs and suddenly find yourself in the most beautiful space. A stunning ballroom, gorgeous balcony and elegant dining room. It really has that “wow” factor. I recently had the pleasure of working here and Christina, Poppy and the team were fantastic. So supportive, incredibly helpful with gear, parking and all the little things that make a big difference on the day. As a celebrant, I work at a lot of venues and this one is definitely a special find. Beautiful space, wonderful people and an absolute pleasure to work in. Highly recommend. ❤️
