Reviews for The Langham Melbourne

Stayed at The Langham for a work event over 5 days. The customer service from arrival to checkout is top tier. Special mention to Julie, Georgia, Riley, and the team that supported our event. The busker and DJ were perfect! The breakfast is out of this world. Look for the chef that makes the poached eggs, he remembered me every morning and made them for my congee. The Indian chef also recognised me and would start making my garlic cheese naan as soon as he saw me! The gym was well stocked with equipment. I didn’t have time to visit the spa and pool but they did look really nice. Highly recommend a stay here!

I booked The Langham for New Year’s Eve/Day and surprisingly it didn’t hit the mark for me. While service was excellent, staff were kind and the views were stunning, there were definitely some downsides to my stay. Firstly, while the room is timeless, it lacks functionality, I found the bathroom was tightly packed with not enough counterspace, I also found the placement of the toilet and shower opposite each other quite off. Secondly, this isn’t fault of The Langham, but it did impact my stay. I booked via booking.com which advertised The Langham has cable channels, however in-room there are only a handful to pick from and not the whole guide (fox8 and the more popular sport channels), I feel as though if I knew this, I would not have booked. Thirdly, I didn’t like the in-room dining. I ordered an iced coffee which I found to be just coffee, water and ice, I had asked for sugar but it was painfully bitter. The nachos came without guacamole and sour cream which I had to chase up, when chased (apologies if I’m wrong), the guacamole tasted like store bought dip. Lastly, I ordered a nasi goreng which was flavourless and bland. I don’t want this review to be entirely negative, so there were some upsides to my trip, I loved the decor for new years and the elegance of the lobby. The pool was absolutely amazing, I spent heaps of time in the spa gazing at the Melbourne skyline. The pool deck was relaxing and service was great over there. I didn’t manage to purchase anything from Flavours of Langham - but I would definitely go back. I did feel as though staying here was more of a “tick of the box” location though.

What a great place to stay. The staff are excellent - nothing is too much trouble and everything is handled with grace and good humour. Special mention to Maryna from the guest relations team. She asked when we arrived if there was any special reason we were holidaying there. I mentioned that it was our 30th wedding anniversary and we decided we wanted to mark the occasion with something special. It was quite spur of the moment - we booked about 10 days previously. So, we had arrived early and went for breakfast and just asked if there was any chance we could get into the room early. They were so accommodating and rang us a couple of hours later as we were in the lanes and let us know we could get in (about 4 hours early!). We decided to clean up and head for the pool - which is very well maintained with a great spa area. Once we were back in our room, room service arrived with complimentary champagne and a “Happy Anniversary” cake, courtesy of Maryna and Kevin. Such a nice gesture, which we really appreciated. Top notch bar, restaurant, facilities and the service is 100%. I can’t recommend the Langham enough.

What can I say. I looked at a lot of hotels in the area and originally had a different one booked, then came across this one. I was not disappointed. This has to be one of the best hotels I have stayed at. The breakfast alone was fantastic, I have never seen such a selection. The executive lounge was also fantastic. Canopes there were lovely and they even had a good selection of wines. The spa is excellent, with pool, hot tub, sauna etc. Great after a day exploring the city. Its also ideally located for the city with the Skydeck and parks in front and a path across to the station and city centre across the river behind. The views over the city from the room were also some of the best you could get. The prices were also very good value for money. I would definitely recommend staying here if you go to Melbourne.

Stayed 3 nights and overall a disappointing experience. It started off well with responsive and welcoming concierge on arrival. The room was clean and bedding very comfortable. Reception has communication issues. I called down shortly after arrival to advise that I would not be requiring the breakfast buffet package that I booked months prior when booking the room (and reception stated I had not paid for which was odd since I had pre-paid for the room and I am investigating this) yet my card was charged for it on checkout prior to me being given the invoice to review. The receptionist did not connect the dots that most people don't need in-room breakfast plus a buffet breakfast. On the subject of room service, the hotel charges a $9.00 'delivery fee'. I have stayed in all grades of hotel in my time from 1 to 5 stars and ordered room service more than once or twice. I have never come across a delivery fee for room service. The old saying that they 'charge like wounded bulls' also applies here. One morning we ordered in room breakfast for 6:45, it arrived at 6:30 which doesn't sound like a big deal but it meant that my daughter had cold coffee and breakfast. Also weirdly, they provided no butter, only peanut butter, with the pastries. Peanut butter and croissant is not that great a combo. Nit-picking? Probably. If this was a 2 star hotel, these things wouldn't rate a mention, but the way The Langham charges, from room rate to food and beverage, laundry services, I expect a seamless experience, and it wasn't that. They need to tighten up their internal processes and keep on top of staff training.
