I had a great solo dinner at The Provincial Hotel and came in on a Wednesday for their steak night. The steak was really good value and made for a cheap midweek dinner without sacrificing on quality. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out nicely cooked. It was a good, satisfying pub meal and definitely worth coming in for the Wednesday special. I also asked for some extra butter and the staff were more than happy to bring some out, which I really appreciated. There's heaps of seating throughout the venue, so it's a good place for anything from a casual dinner to drinks with a larger group. There are different areas to sit in as well, including the rooftop if you're looking for a different atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. Service was relaxed and it was nice that they were happy to help with little requests like bringing out extra butter. Overall, a really good pub for a midweek meal. The Wednesday steak night was great value, my medium rare steak was delicious and the staff were lovely.

Had a fantastic family lunch at The Provincial Hotel in Fitzroy. The venue has a great mix of old-school Melbourne pub charm and modern touches, with plenty of different spaces to enjoy. We loved the colourful heated outdoor beer garden, which felt relaxed and somewhat family-friendly, and the photo booth was a fun bonus. The food was excellent, with generous portions and plenty of variety on the menu. The Sunday roast was cooked beautifully, the steak was tender, and the sides were fresh and full of flavour. Everything arrived quickly and was presented well. The staff were friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to settle in and enjoy a long lunch. Located right on Brunswick Street, it’s a great spot whether you’re meeting friends, bringing the family or just looking for a quality meal in Fitzroy. We’ll definitely be back.

Loved our Sunday at Provincial Hotel Rooftop Bar! Their Sip Happens event is such a fun way to spend a couple of hours with bottomless drinks, everything was refreshing and well-made. The food was also really tasty, perfect to snack on while sipping. Great vibe, friendly staff, and a perfect way to unwind on the weekend. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a chill rooftop experience with good drinks and bites!

Is this the most expensive commercial beer in Australia? $18.80 for a beer. It's 425ml schooner not a 500ml pint. Although I asked for a pint. $18.80c for a schooner! And the blond haired woman behind the bar who kept dropping glasses as she served people had zero personality. Not to mention the chipped glasses. I asked the woman serving me if she could put the footy on the tele and she did, but only after asking me what channel it was on. I said I didn't know so she called someone else on her walkie talkie and that person said that was ok. Phew... Then before I could ask for a beer she just walked away out of sight! What? She eventually walked back to the bar and I asked if I could have a beer, like I wss begging. Please... "Alright" and that was it. Can I have an IPA? No further verbal interaction. Clearly she was too cool for school. Or so she thought. I haven't been here for a long time, and I have been told not to go to this place. Go down the street and get a decent craft beer pint, at much more reasonable prices and with a person who will serve you with a personality.

I visited The Provincial Hotel in November 2026 for a DJ competition the venue was hosting, and it turned into such a fun night out. I travelled in by train and then caught a tram from the CBD, with the hotel only a short walk from the nearest stop. If you’re driving, there is street parking around the area, although being Fitzroy and a Saturday night, it can be a bit competitive. The hotel is easy to spot on the corner thanks to its beautiful old heritage style exterior. When we arrived there was a short line while security checked IDs, but it moved quickly and the security staff were friendly and welcoming. Once inside we found ourselves a table downstairs before grabbing drinks. There was plenty of seating available, including booths, bar stools, high tables, and outdoor tables. Even as the venue became busier throughout the night, it never felt impossible to find somewhere to sit. The bar had a great range of drinks available and I ended up ordering a Hard Solo on tap, which was perfect for the night. They were also running drink specials that gave patrons the chance to vote in the DJ competition, which was a fun way to get everyone involved. There are two bars on the lower level located close together, and it looked like one side could easily be closed off for private functions if needed. One of the things I enjoyed most was exploring the different parts of the hotel. Upstairs there was a private function taking place in one room when we first arrived, but once it finished the space opened up into another dance floor with its own DJ. Having multiple levels meant there was always somewhere different to wander. The outdoor courtyard was another highlight. It was filled with greenery, plenty of seating and a relaxed setting that made it easy to escape the louder music for a while. There were toilets throughout the venue as well, so even with a busy crowd there were enough facilities to cater for everyone. Although we didn’t order food because we’d arrived fairly late and were mainly there for the music, the menu looked like it had plenty of classic pub options available earlier in the evening. The DJs were fantastic all night and I really appreciated seeing a venue giving local talent the opportunity to perform in front of a crowd. Melbourne has such a strong music scene, and it’s great to see pubs like this helping support it. We stayed until late into the night, and even then the venue still had plenty of energy. Between the multiple bars, different entertainment spaces, friendly staff and beautiful heritage building, I had a great time at The Provincial Hotel. If you’re looking for somewhere in Fitzroy for live DJs, a night out with friends or just a good pub with plenty of character, it’s definitely worth checking out.
