Reviews for The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins Melbourne

Upon checking into my room, I found tissue paper stuffed into the door strike plate. This is something that should never be present in a room that has been inspected and prepared for a new guest, and it suggests a clear lapse in the hotel’s room inspection procedures. More importantly, this raised serious concerns about the hotel’s security standards. As a guest, I had no way of knowing why the paper had been placed there, how long it had been there, or whether it could affect the proper functioning of the door lock. My immediate concern was whether the room was actually secure, not whether it was simply a housekeeping oversight. I reported the issue to the front desk. The manager stated that it was likely caused by a previous guest, but no apology was offered, nor did I feel that my concerns about room security were taken seriously. Even more disappointing, I was told that I would receive a follow-up phone call with an explanation, but no one ever contacted me before I checked out. The issue itself may have been relatively minor, but the lack of communication, accountability, and follow-up was disappointing. Guest safety and peace of mind should always be treated as a priority, especially when a potential security concern is reported. The hotel’s location is excellent, but this experience has significantly affected my confidence in the property’s management and security standards. Unfortunately, it would make me hesitant to stay here again. Update: The hotel has since provided a detailed explanation and confirmed that a refund was issued. I appreciate the effort taken to investigate the matter. However, I would like to clarify that the paper found in the door strike plate was not the primary reason I decided to check out. Had the situation been handled with professionalism, empathy, and a sincere apology, I would likely have continued my stay. What ultimately caused me to lose confidence was the way my concerns were handled at the time. When I raised what I believed to be a legitimate security concern, I did not feel that it was taken seriously. I was asked, “What would you like?”, which came across as dismissive rather than supportive. I was not looking for compensation; I was simply looking for reassurance and a professional response. I was also informed that no senior manager was available over the weekend, leaving me with no practical way to escalate my concerns at the time. While I appreciate the hotel’s investigation afterwards, first impressions matter. The initial response to a guest’s safety concern is ultimately what led me to leave the property.

This was my first experience at The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins Street. It was amazing! I was in room 1006. The check in, the stay, the check out - everything was excellent. The location is superb - right opposite Southern Cross station, yet there was no disturbance at all. The hotel has a ‘character’ - all the way from the reception to the rooms. I will happily return here another time.

My stay at this so called 4 star Hotel was a letdown across the board with issues spanning Maintenance,Housekeeping Management and even the restaurant Maintenance issues were frequent and poorly handled.Issues in the room were either ignored, temporarily patched or made worse by staff who didn’t seem properly trained. What should have been simple fixes turned into repeated disruptions with no lasting resolution. A/C randomly turning on and off Bathroom flooded when taking a shower due to blocked drains. Paper thin walls Tv remote not working Only a few of many maintenance issues. Housekeeping was equally disappointing. The room was not cleaned to an acceptable standard with obvious details overlooked and inconsistent services. Rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis. For a Hotel claiming to be 4star status, the lack of attention to detail was hard to ignore. The restaurant experience was just as underwhelming. The food was below standard , poorly prepared , lacking flavour and not what you would expect at this level.Service didn’t help either with long waits and little attention from staff whom once again seemed untrained. What stood out most was the absence of effective Senior Management.Concerns raised during our stay were met with vague responses or no follow up at all. There was a clear lack of accountability and coordination between departments which only amplified the issues rather than resolving them . After further enquires it seems the Hotel is Top Heavy with underperforming managers. 1 x General Manager 1 x Assistant General Manager 1 x Chief Engineer 1 x Assistant Chief Engineer, part of a 6 person maintenance team . Not sure what qualifications you need to be a Chief Engineer for a Hotel , obviously not much as is for all Managers at this Hotel. When asked to speak to one of the Managers they were always busy or not available and not 1 of these so called Managers responded to our concerns Overall the experience felt disorganised and poorly managed falling far short of what you would expect from a 4 star Hotel. I also note the generic responses to all the 1 star reviews so head office can expect a letter of complaint. Until there is serious improvement in leadership, staff training and service quality this Hotel has been placed on our DO NOT STAY OR BOOK for our company, family and friends

The Savoy is truly a great hotel, excellent location, but with room for improvement in cleanliness. I would stay there again if I return to Melbourne. I really liked the hotel. The location is excellent, and that alone is already a big advantage. Southern Cross Station is right next door, which makes it very easy to move around the city, but you can also walk to almost anywhere in the city center without any problem. The hotel staff is very friendly and helped me solve several things during my stay. What I didn’t like was that the cleanliness could have been better, although overall it was still acceptable. My wife took a shower and when we returned to the room after cleaning, there were hairs on the floor, and the toilet seat had not been lifted during cleaning, so it was left quite dirty. The room is very nice, but it looks bigger in the photos than it actually is; in reality, it is quite small.

Beautiful hotel next to SouthCross Station. Nice sized and well appointed room with comfortable bed. Beautiful bathroom with fantastic shower. Room has a coffee machine which is a big plus, but no bathrobes or slippers. No queue to check in and the staff were very helpful. Only negative is the furniture is a bit shabby, with the wardrobe having to be taped up.
