We came for the afrobest party and it was beautiful, well organised, the boat is perfect. The atmosphere was also perfect, something I did not expect, because most of the people were well dressed at the entrance and there were many couches and tables, so I was worried about boring people. But it was not the case. The party was a surprise for my wife, who never attended such great events in her life. She was so happy, she wanted to go again just one day after. Thank you for bringing African culture to our new homes. If you want to do me a favour, I would like to have my culture here too and please organise a hardstyle party like in Netherland.

Disappointing is really the only way to describe it. First, YOT appears to be undergoing major renovations, so you can’t access their usual building — fine, things happen. But when you arrive, the building is closed and there is no signage anywhere explaining where you’re actually supposed to go. At first, I genuinely thought I had been scammed. A random person at a nearby pub eventually told our group where we needed to go. We headed there, but it was difficult to find and, once again, there was still no signage. We eventually lined up at another dock, which had advertisements for completely different boats. Finally, a group of very grumpy staff came out and started yelling at everyone to line up along the edge. We moved where we were told, had our tickets scanned, and then another very grumpy staff member came along and insisted on scanning them again — while getting annoyed at the first staff member for how she had scanned them. The staff then continued scanning tickets while letting us walk down the dock ourselves to find the boat. Except… there was no YOT boat. There were plenty of boats, just not ours. Around 25 of us ended up standing in the middle of the pier looking at each other like, “…where are we actually supposed to go?” Eventually, a brave soul figured it out and came back to tell the rest of us — and they weren’t even a staff member. Apparently, we were supposed to instinctively know that when we reached the end of the pier, we needed to walk through the heli-pad building, cross their ramp and, hidden from view, was the YOT boat. Once you finally reach the boat, there are YOT staff there and you can board — but by that point, the whole process had been unnecessarily stressful. There were definitely people who came very close to missing the boat simply because they couldn’t find the building, the new pier, the boat, or even a staff member who could tell them where to go. Once onboard, things improved. The drinks were lovely and the food was good, particularly the gluten-free options. There was also live music, which I normally love. Unfortunately, while I’m sure the musicians were lovely people, the singing really wasn’t great. At one point, an audience member was invited up to sing Nutbush City Limits — and honestly, they sang sooooo much better. Overall, the experience could have been significantly better. The entire stressful start to the morning could have been avoided with some clear signage and staff who were actually available and willing to help. The boat itself and the food/drinks were enjoyable, but the confusion, lack of communication and unfriendly staff really put a damper on what should have been a relaxing experience.

I would say we picked a quiet day to set sail only a handful of us upstairs in VIP but I enjoyed the flexibility to move with ease. The food was great, cocktails were overpriced for the size of the glass and one of the toilets upstairs was blocked. Not something I’d do again in a hurry.

ONE OF THE MANY REVIEWS STATING SECURITY/ID CHECKERS HERE ARE RUDE AND/OR HOSTILE!! i landed in australia today and i’m staying in a hostel in brisbane. my boyfriend and i joined our hostel group, of between 30 and 40 people, and we all headed to board the yacht on the harbour. we saw a group of girls that were before us in the queue be let in, one of them of which showed just a photo of her ID, the young boy checking ID’s looked at her phone which had a picture of her ID, and multiple members of our group watched this. we stood at the start of our hostel group and were asked to show ID’s. we explained the hostel we were staying in and that we had just landed a few hours prior. he said as i looked under 25 i needed to find someone in my group that was 25 or older to be allowed to enter. we stood with a gentlemen in our group that was 35, we were then told i’m not allowed to enter even though i had just done what was asked. i mentioned that we had just watched a girl be let in with just a picture of her ID, he then rudely said how that had never happened and told me to move out of his way. our hostel we are staying in is strictly 18+. we showed pictures of my passport and explained our situation thoroughly. the young boy was not only rude but unhelpful & hostile. i am 24 years old, could provide emails with my visa that states my age, my hostel information that proves my age and my flight log from today that states my age. i won’t be returning and to all of my friends and people i know that are in/coming to brisbane i will strongly be recommending to not go because of the treatment from this boy. TOO ADD ON, my boyfriend who is younger than me, was told by this ID boy that he was fine to enter even though he hadn’t shown his ID or a picture of it. an exact snippet of the conversation went like this: the ID boy looked at my boyfriend and said “you’re fine” (didn’t need to prove his age) then proceeded to point at me and said “she’s not allowed in”. closing my argument that he clearly displayed sexist & discriminative behaviour.
