Travelled to Sydney with Dad recently and we actually enjoyed our stay at the Rydges for 4 days. To be fair I was a bit worried when I saw some of the reviews, but I feel my experience was actually quite positive and all staff were very friendly and helpful. I think the current rating doesn't actually reflect the quality of this hotel. 1. Location is great and easy access to the Victoria Cross metro station - it's literally 5 minutes walk. Walking distance to the local Coles and chemist. 2. Quiet enough. We were given a room at the very end of the hallway so we couldn't hear anything from the lift. You do hear people closing their door and at times people talking in the hallway but in general we had good sleep and other guests were respectful. 3. Hygiene was ok. Our room was reorganised everyday and we were given fresh bath towels daily. We initially had some issues with small black flies in the room and after I spoke the manager/receptionist, they have offered to clean the room, or if this didn't resolve the issue they offered to transfer us to a different room. I think it was a nice gesture, and the lady who cleaned our room was kind and thorough, which resolved the issue. My only reminder for people who's planning to book a room at the Rydes is that their minibar fridge is very very tiny and will maybe fit 2 extra bars of chocolate. If you are thinking of placing your own items (left overs, meds, snacks) you may want to check the fridge space before you go and buy anything.
I recently stayed at Rydges North Sydney, and it genuinely exceeded my expectations. The hotel is located in such a strategic spot and it is incredibly convenient to everything. Whether you need to grab a coffee, find a restaurant, or catch transport into the city, everything is just a short walk away. You really can’t beat the location for accessibility. What surprised me most was the value for money. For such a reasonable price, you get access to fantastic facilities. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, and it is clear they have put thought into making the stay enjoyable without breaking the bank. However, the absolute highlight was the team. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I arrived. They went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed, which created such a warm atmosphere. It actually felt homely, which is rare to find in a busy city hotel. If you are looking for a place that combines convenience, comfort, and genuine hospitality in North Sydney, I highly recommend Rydges. I will definitely be staying here again.
5 stars to Mahesh for excellent customer service and allowing my friend and I to stay at rooms on the same level. He could have said no and it would have been totally within his rights but he took the extra effort to accommodate for us, so thankyou! We really appreciate it!!! PS: Wish the hotel provided slippers though.
Felt a let-down for a 4-star hotel. There was an Indian middle-aged man at reception. Very rude. No smiles, barely looked up to say anything while checking in - instead guiding me into the auto check-in machine and dropping a leaflet at the desk. Also felt like a big inconvenience to ask him to bring up some plates. Had to call twice. Most other staff were nice enough. Rooms were good. Housekeeping daily clean was just clearing the bins and putting in new towels and tidying up the bed. One of the days they made all sorts of scuff marks or some black marks on the bathroom tiles and living room floors. Didn't change the shower gel or shampoo in two days. Breakfast buffet is very basic, not worth the discounted $27 we paid. Location is nice.
Fantastic hotel. We booked online. On arrival they said they had no double rooms available. Tried to cancel booking online to get refund. Called the provider. Spoke minutes and phone cut out. After 25 mins of waiting and not getting anywhere another lady came down and said they could make up the twin single room as double in 20 mins. We waited a half hour and this was done thankfully as we travelled from Penrith to get there and it was getting late at night. For our wait and stuff around they gave us complementary parking amd breaky. A lovely guesture.
