Reviews for Sofitel Darling Harbour

My wife and I have stayed at the Sofitel Darling Harbour on numerous occasions, and it never fails to impress. A special shout out to the staff in club Millésime who went out of their way to make our experience even more enjoyable. Fantastic experience from check-in to check-out. Thank you so much. Our corner suite was spacious and comfortable with a fantastic view over the city to Botany Bay. We had the good fortune to dine at Atelier during our stay. As always, the food was outstanding along with excellent service from Daniella. Thank you Sofitel for yet another relaxing and comfortable experience. We’re looking forward to our next stay.

Great location — right next to the Convention Centre light rail, and nice view from our room but that’s about all the positives. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to what you’d expect from a five-star hotel. We’re Accor Gold members and have honestly had much better service at smaller hotels that cost half the price. When you stay somewhere like this, you expect the service to match the five-star label, but it just didn’t. Instead of a welcome note & complimentary bottle of wine (which we’ve received at the cheaper Accor hotels), we got a knock on the door with a welcome note and two tiny bottles of sparkling water — something most hotels leave by the bed daily for free. They delivered it like it was a special gesture, which really missed the mark. The pool area was also a bit underwhelming — the water was cold, there’s not much shade, and the view isn’t quite as good as the photos online. Service at the pool bar was poor too; the staff were unfriendly and disinterested. One bartender gave me attitude when I asked her for a specific glass, and I overheard another waitress speaking a little rudely to a guest. Something just seems off with the staff culture here — that warmth and professionalism you’d expect from a five-star property was really missing. While the location and room view were lovely, the overall experience just wasn’t worth it. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The room is very nice and quite spacious (twin double bed deluxe room), with very comfortable bed and sofa chair. The location is great, walking distance to pitt st mall, and easy tram ride to fish market. Too bad the swimming pool view is now partially covered by the construction, but that’s not Sofitel’s fault. Shout out to their staff member James who was very hospitable and friendly.

I have stayed at this hotel for one week in November. The room was clean, spacious and the beds comfortable. The location is very nice, in the Darling harbour. The coffee machine provided in the room does not work properly. Breakfast is good, although it is very annoying that you have to order omelets and coffee and it takes a long time to get them. The provided scrambled eggs and filter coffee are horrible. However, the worst thing was that they blocked 2000EUR on my debit card in the first day and then proceeded to take another 2000EUR from my account as payment for the stay, leaving the initial 2000EUR blocked. Basically for my entire stay I could not access this money and it was not a small amount! Imagine being in a foreign country and depending on this money! I talked to the reception about this, i got no apology and no empathy, and certainly no one attempted to fix the issue. The first employee i talked to said that it was going to be fixed at check out and there was nothing he could do. At check out, another employee assured me that the money was going to be unblocked. Again no apology, he did not care that I could not use my own money! I got home, to another continent, my money was still blocked. I had to file a complaint at the bank to get my own money. And yes, I got an apology, after writing an email to all their email addresses to let them know that it is completely unacceptable and the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Moral of the story: if you choose to stay in this hotel, only use a card that has the exact amount you need to pay. The staff is completely unhelpful.

Our welcome was lovely, room was very nice and the bathroom was gorgeous. The location was fabulous, gym well equipped and clean and the addition of cold face towels was delightful. Only issue (and a very small one) was that our TV remote receiver in the room was held on with Blutak and kept falling off, which we weren't expecting considering the quality of the hotel. Other than the experience was seamless and the staff were all absolutely wonderful.
