Liked: Friendly staff, charming heritage vibe, larger than typical standard room, nice cold fridge, big bathroom, well maintained room and public areas, excellent quality TV. Disliked: Smaller cushions on the room tub chairs would be better as the ones used are way too big. More serious however is the relatively recent change to a new car parks gate control system that came with expanded parking capacity from one to two car parks, something that was desperately needed. The new car parks access control is best described as ineptly implemented, with thoughtless positioning of card readers making it almost impossible to open the gates without getting out of your car, and poorly implemented sensors for boom gate raising when exiting, so that once again, exiting the car to use the car reader or contact reception to get the boom gate raised was needed. Rectify the car park access control system so the $18 per day fee to use it is then justifiable!

Nice and quiet. Old charm which is nice. Well appointed rooms. Bathrooms are too modern and don't match heritage of building. Mattress was firm. Would stay again. Brekky and coffee was nice

Hotel Kurrajong Canberra offers a charming blend of colonial elegance and modern comfort, making it a delightful place to stay. The hotel's architecture and decor give off a nostalgic, classic vibe, which adds to its unique charm. The staff are welcoming, personable, and always ready to assist, contributing to the warm atmosphere. The on-site café stands out with its delicious menu, offering a range of dishes that are both well-prepared and flavorful. Whether you're stopping by for a quick snack or a full meal, the dining experience is satisfying and well worth trying. One downside is the hotel's location, which is a bit removed from Canberra's city center. While this provides a peaceful, quiet retreat, it may be less convenient for those looking to explore the heart of the city on foot. However, the serene environment more than makes up for this, especially if you appreciate a more relaxed pace. Overall, Hotel Kurrajong is an excellent choice for those looking for a stylish, peaceful stay with great service and delicious food.

The accommodation was great. Only outdoor parking. Restaurant has nice breakfast and dinner, although service could be refined. History was amazing. We will certainly come back, and recommend to others.

Hotel Kurrajong is a charming blend of history and modernity, offering guests a unique and memorable stay. Recently renovated, the hotel has a distinct Gatsby-era vibe, with Art Deco-inspired interiors and furnishings creating a considered ambiance. However, it's worth noting that the rooms are on the smaller side, though they are thoughtfully designed to maximise comfort and style. A quick note for light sleepers that you can hear doors closing from inside the you're room. The hotel's sprawling layout means that finding your room can sometimes require a bit of a walk, especially if you're in one of the wings further from the main entrance. This setup adds to the charm of staying in a historic property, but it might not suit those seeking quick access to the main entrance, or a quick dash to collect their Uber Eats. But, it definitely helps with the step count. Originally built in 1926, Hotel Kurrajong has long been a part of Canberra’s history. It once served as a residence for government officials and public servants, including Australia's 16th Prime Minister, Ben Chifley, who famously lived at the hotel during his time in office. The hotel's connection to history makes it a fascinating place to explore for history buffs. Pictures or past parliamentarians line the halls. Adding to its allure is the tale of the "haunted room." Room 214 is rumored to be inhabited by a ghost, often thought to be the spirit of Chifley himself, who passed in the room from a heart attack. Guests have reported unusual occurrences, such as flickering lights, unexpected drafts, and mysterious sounds. Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, it’s a quirky piece of folklore that adds an air of intrigue to your stay. Guests have reported seeing him, however never if they are looking for him. Overall, Hotel Kurrajong offers a unique experience that combines the elegance of the past with the comforts of today. Its rich history, stylish renovation, and playful nods to its storied past make it a must-visit for travelers seeking something beyond the ordinary. Just don’t forget to ask about the ghost stories during your visit!
