Reviews for Spicers Sangoma Retreat

After spending over $5,000 for two nights in the Chief Suite, I had high expectations—and I’m happy to say they were fully met. The room's decor was beautifully designed, creating an elegant yet cozy atmosphere. Despite being located next to the main house, the suite felt completely secluded, offering full privacy for a truly relaxing stay. One of the highlights was the dining experience. Not having to choose meals at lunch and dinner was a refreshing change, and the set menus were both generous and delicious. The variety was impressive, and every dish was satisfying. Overall, an exceptional experience that was well worth it!

I cannot speak more highly of the staff, food and premises. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We would definitely go back. The region is incredible a must do is the Botanical Gardens and Hawkesbury Look out. A very easy drive from Sydney and fantastic parking on site. The views are spectacular as is the garden. Jill the care taker does an amazing job!

My wife and I visited Spicers for our mini moon. We absolutely love it. Jill looked after us like family. She has been working at the resort for years and knows how to help guests with everything. Great asset to the team. The restaurant staff were all awesome as well. 10/10 recommend to a friend :)

Our stay at Spicers unfortunately left us feeling disappointed. We spent $5.5k on a 2 night stay+babymoon package. The confirmation email we received mentioned non-alcoholic bubbly on arrival which we didn't receive on the first day. When we enquired on the second day, we were told that it's usually served with the bath butler experience which would be done later that day. We would've appreciated some form of communication, instead of being left wondering. On the second night at dinner, I was served a dish with mayo. I had to ask if it was made in house and was told that it contained unpasteurized raw eggs. Both mornings at breakfast we were served a fruit platter containing rockmelon, which is unsafe to consume in pregnancy because it may contain listeria. At 7 months pregnant I was used to scrutinising menus to look out for ingredients I can't have. But I didn't think I'd have to do it at a 5* luxury retreat. I live in NSW and I expected the restaurant to at least be up to date with the food safety guideline during pregnancy from NSW food authority. The bath prepared for us after dinner was extremely hot, making it unsafe for me and my baby. I don't want to come across as a precious fragile little thing just because I'm pregnant, but if you're going to offer a babymoon package at an additional cost please make sure you're actually equipped to cater to our needs. We had to swat away flies at every meal time despite dining inside. I don't think anyone bothered to remember our names, even though there were only 5 or 6 couples at a time. There was no mention of my birthday, despite my husband mentioning it at the time of booking. It's a nice quiet retreat, but if you're looking to splurge there are much better places that are worth every dollar. We stayed at Saffire Freycinet in Tasmania last year and we enjoyed every second of it.

This was my best and most beautiful hotel experience ever. Being in the bush with this southafrican inspired High End furniture was fantastic. We used the sauna a lot and then swam in the cold pool in the rain, looking into the bush. Everything was thoughtfully picked and curated, every last detail. The coffee table books, the scents in the bathroom, the swinging chair on the deck and the coffee machine with oat milk in our mini bar. I would love to come back. Greetings from Melbourne and thanks for the beautiful stay.
