Reviews for The Old Clare by Ode Hotels

I'm surprised this is a 5* hotel. It's a nice spot, but not what I'm used to when I book 5*. I would describe it more as boutique. The hotel has everything you need- restaurant, bar, air con, rooftop pool. I will note it was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, wildly good sheets. Rooms all look a bit old and tired but had some charm. The breakfast wasn't great in comparison to usual hotel breakfasts but I liked the little touches like sweets in the lobby and the unusual decor. It's situated in a good area, next to some great vibey restaurants.

Enjoyed a three night stay at The Old Clare Hotel. We loved the location close to Spice Alley and transport links. Our room was really spacious-great bed and interesting bathroom arrangement. Absolutely loved an early morning swim in the rooftop heated pool. Hotel staff in reception and at breakfast and in the main bar were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the variety available at breakfast most days. The events team at The Old Clare, however, need to consider the impact of holding large events on other guests. The rooftop bar was closed most evenings for ‘private’ groups and breakfast on the final morning was severely disrupted for other guests due to the arrangements made for a conference.

What a shame. Unfortunately they’ve missed the mark on the standard expected at a 5* hotel. Let’s start with the good bits though. - the rooms are big - the staff are friendly - the food/dining is good - the bathrobes are to die for! Negatives - it smells old and musty everywhere. It was so bad in our Clare Suit we had to move rooms. After we moved rooms, we went and bought a room fragrance spray because the new room wasn’t much better. - it’s dusty. Our original room had thick dust on so many surfaces and smelt so bad I had to take an antihistamine. - it’s dirty. After we changed rooms, we noticed our shower had hair in the drain that would have been very easy for housekeeping to remove if they cleaned properly. Also a packet of pads in the bathroom cupboard that must have been left by a previous guest. Overall we won’t stay here again. Attention to detail is lacking and needs to be overhauled by management. It appears as though there isn’t a lot of care at the top which filters down through the levels of staff. Like I said in the beginning, it is such a shame as the concept is great and the building is very cool. This could be an outstanding hotel in the right hands.

What a great experience we had at the Old Clare. We loved it. The rooms are superb with heaps of tech, super comfy beds and classy bathrooms. So much interesting history in the hotel and the surrounding area. Service was excellent, everyone was great. Location was fantastic. On the doorstep is central station, many dining and bar options, bakeries, coffee, parks. Make sure you read the compendium with staff recommendations, they are bang on!

I haven’t stayed there yet, just booked for a next month night . Wanted to mention one of the staff members who was professional and very helpful, his name is Veysel Y (apologies if spelling is incorrect). The first impression is very positive. By the way the Hotel looks so cool and different. Looking forward for our stay there.
