Hidden inside a stunning old sandstone heritage building, Ennui is an elegant yet relaxed French dining experience right in the heart of Haymarket. Located between Central Station and Capitol Theatre, this spot offers a refined ambiance perfect for date nights or intimate gatherings. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Duck Ennui – a two-way duck dish that left me impressed. The duck breast was grilled to perfection with crispy skin and a smoky aroma, while the fried duck legs were incredibly juicy, with the rich gravy and beet-strawberry sauce adding a delightful contrast of flavors. The oysters were a must-try, fresh, and bursting with briny sweetness. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, and the portions were generous. Highly recommend this place for a sophisticated yet unpretentious dining experience in Sydney!

We were from interstate and it was a last minute choice to come to Ennui for my birthday dinner. Absolutely the best choice. Food and staff amazing. Helped us through the menu and explained the dishes. Loved it all. Duck is to die for - (Sorry about the picture, we had eaten some of the duck as we couldn't wait and forgot to take the photo!) My desert came out with a candle, just topped off the night. We will definitely be back to try the other dishes and will pass the word to our friends to definitely go there when they visit Sydney.

29/3/25 - 2.5 stars Disappointing. Walked past this place several times and thought a restaurant built in a sandstone cottage within central Sydney would be something more amazing, but, sadly the experience was mid. Wait staff were generally friendly and helpful. The decor was decent though lighting maybe a bit too dim. The main issue was the amount of time we were left waiting. We spent about 2.5hrs at Ennui and probably only about 45 mins actually enjoying the food. Even getting the starters and drinks took 30-40 mins. By the end of it, I just wanted to eat and go. The secondary issue was the food. Most of the dishes were average or just plain subpar. The only good dishes were the fioretto, duck, wagyu and zucchini tempura. Even then, the duck is super expensive and not worth. The drinks were very hit and miss with the espresso martini being the only good one. Overall, not worth the time and money. The happy hour specials were decent though especially the burger and oysters. Signature duck Flavour: S, 8/10. Sauce is ok but nothing amazing. Duck flavour was generally good Texture: S+, 8.5/10. Skin was very crispy yet meat was tender. Value: F. $68 for a single breast? Wagyu tri-tip Flavour: S, 8/10. Again solid but not amazing Texture: S, 8/10 Value: F, $75 ala carte is crazy work.

Ennui was so nice tonight with excellent food, comfortable interiors and staff who are both friendly and professional. The house special of duck was excellent. The wine list is extensive and carefully crafted. These are almost fine dining prices but the quality is there and there is no attitude or pretentiousness. Also have a seasonal set menu that looked great for $95.

Signature duck dish was good. Crispy skin with juicy tender brest meat. The toast with escargot was wonderful. King cod collar with jalapeños sauce was nice.
