Reviews for Great Southern Hotel Sydney

We just stayed there for the second time while attending the Sydney cricket test. It's a lovely art deco building that has kept a lot of its charm through renovations over the years. The location is ideal - right next to Chinatown, close to Central station, and across the road from the light rail. Rooms are clean and quiet if on the small side. (Tip: if you find yourself in one of the really small rooms don't hesitate to ask to be moved, they are very obliging.) Continental and hot breakfasts are available at modest prices. Staff were most helpful. And the cost is very reasonable, you could easily pay 50% or more elsewhere. It's now become our go to place when staying in Sydney.

The hotel is in a great location, and the customer service was commendable. The staff were friendly and helpful. However, the room was just average, and the mattress was a major letdown. Every time my partner turned over, it felt like being on a trampoline, which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The breakfast was disappointing, especially for a 4-star hotel. The options were very limited which felt more like a 2-star experience. It might be better to explore nearby restaurants for a more satisfying breakfast.

This is a wonderful place. It's now my second time here after staying here last year on a trip to Sydney. It is in a beautiful historic art deco building with many interesting artifacts from yesteryear in the huge foyer. It is very reasonably priced (my initial reason for choosing it) and very centrally located - near Central station but the light rail is across the road which will take you to circular quay and the opera house. The staff are friendly and the rooms I have had, while not overly large, have good bathrooms with walk in showers. A huge benefit is that all meals are available on site including breakfast (cooked/ Continental at a reasonable price). The serves for the dinner menu are huge! Another plus is that they will store your luggage for free with a well-organised ticketing system. I will keep staying as long as the prices stay reasonable!

We had a early check-in that was nice but the room was very small and old. We booked a large double bed and we've gotten a small queen size bed with one mattress, everytime my husband moved I was jumping, terrible. Very noisy besides the room. The bathroom was very small and old, stay only one person to move. The WIFI was good. Quality and price does not match. The view was very bad

This is the perfect place to stay in Sydney. It is a very short distance to Central Station. The light rail stop is across the street - couldn't be more convenient! The hotel is an older establishment with clean rooms and great service by staff. I highly recommend.
