DO NOT leave anything in your room when you check out - you won't get it back! I noticed when unpacking I'd left my Apple Air power adapter and cable in the room and contacted the hotel that night (20 June). The following day I received a 2 line generic email from Reception it couldn't be located in the room or lost property. I replied letting them know exactly which socket I'd left it in and was disappointed the cleaning staff couldn't see a 2 metre cable which didn't belong in the "hotel" room and asked if they could check again. The replacement value is $188.00. I've heard nothing since and can only hope Management doesn't send me one of their stock replies but will investigate the matter for me. I can only draw my own conclusions about the integrity of the staff if my property is not found.... 24 June 2024 As you've chosen to respond to me via the website instead of a phone call, I'll do the same. The charger/cable is not in my suitcase and I'm 100% certain it was left in the room. If it's not found I'll have no choice but to make a police report.

This was a nice hotel to stay at! The room was spacious. The staff let us check in early, so that was really appreciated! Close to many things and walking distance to the train station.

Historic pub/hotel. Good old value for money without all the $bells and whistles. Well situated for buses, trains and light railway. 5 mins walk from Central Station. Great full breakfast for $15 with cereal, toast and tea and coffee. Rooms are dated but clean. All linen and towels immaculate.

Honestly, I’m confused why this place has so many good reviews. If it wasn’t for the location, we wouldn’t have stayed longer than 1 night. There are large gaps under the front door so light passes through at night and you can hear any one walking past your door. The bed is fine if you’re alone, but be careful if you have 2 people, you will jiggle every time someone moves. If you can bring your own pillow, it might help you sleep better. The pillows were stiff as bricks, if that’s your thing, you’ll love them. Overall the best thing in the hotel was the elevator.

Fabulous location near Central Station, theatres, tram, eateries, shops, Paddy's Markets, Food Court, China Town and pedestrian entry to Darling Harbour (opposite UTS building). The Great Southern is a refurbished heritage building with a great bar, restaurant and competitive prices. We booked a non-serviced unit directly with hotel and elected to replenish our tea, coffee, etc with helpful reception staff when needed. Thank you for a great stay, we shall return.
