I originally booked at the Mantra Parramatta and the place was so vile my company arranged a last minute booking here. I was so happy to arrive, the service, the hotel was a huge relief. I loved my room, clean, new, fresh. The restaurant was nice and breakfast was good for $30. I was very happy with my stay here, lovely staff too.

We stayed here for 5 days. The overall experience was good, centrally located. The rooms are recently refurbished, which is good. Some improvements required reception staff need welcoming training, breakfast need some rotational menu instead of same everyday, pool need regular cleaning checks, water mixers in bath need proper adjustments.

The rooms were beautifully refurbished and of top quality. However, the shower water temperature was way too hot, even when I turned on the cold water. I mentioned this to the check-in staff, but they said it had been checked and was working fine. Clearly, it hadn’t been fixed. I do like a hot shower, but this was really uncomfortable. On a different note, my room door was left ajar after it had been cleaned. This made me a bit worried about security, especially since there had been a previous hotel break-in where my room was used for a drug party. Thankfully, I was leaving the next day, as these two issues worried me. Overall, the hotel was lovely, and I’d probably not recommend it to a family with small children, due to the hot shower.

Each year I have a few breaks of about 10 days in a hotel to spend time alone and reduce stress. The first room I was given had only scalding hot or cold water in the shower. When I contacted staff it became clear that this problem was known and yet I was booked into it for 9 nights! I suggested that a complimentary breakfast would be appropriate but I was given a room 'upgrade'- so I packed up everything and moved. The 'upgrade' had a little more storage space, one of those pod coffee machines guaranteed to deliver a luke- warm espresso every time and an ugly, useless desk instead of a convenient little dining table. Hmm. This room had a loud noise. I turned off the refrigerator and air-conditioning but it persisted making it impossible to relax or sleep. I contacted staff again. The manager who came was courteous and apologetic. He could not locate the noise either, so he gave me some earplugs. By this time it was very late. The following day another staff member came and found that the bathroom extracter fan was not turning off. He disabled it and the noise was gone. Now I think I'm owed two complimentary breakfasts lol.One of the reasons I booked here was because I noticed that it had what a number of the better hotels are doing: an afternoon tea. However, here they serve alcohol at the high tea which might be why the price is so absurd-. $88 and it's only on Sundays. I had an overpriced meal of dry chicken breast and over cooked potato, two tiny carrots and two florets of brocolini. Also, a lentil curry from the latenight room service menu which was inedible. It was so dry I actually had to spit out the first mouthful. The only flavour was cinnamon, no trace of cardamom, curry leaves etc. It came with what I think was meant to be a poppadom but looked and tasted like damp cardboard.Ugh! The pool is in shade for a lot of the day so it is exceptionally cold. If you are a smoker, this hotel does not want your business. If one is in an outside area with no other guests anywhere, the staff members have been trained to police the non smoking rule which most of them clearly feel embarrassed about. There is more than enough outdoor space for a small area for smokers, where non smoking guests would not be offended. When proprietors do not provide these spaces they are in effect saying that smokers are not entitled to enjoy their stay as much as non smokers. However, everyone is entitled to drink, drink, drink because that turns a profit. I suggest that instead of here, you stay at the Mercure Bankstown which is linked to the sports club. You will have a large comfortable outdoor smokers area. You will be closer to the opera house, harbour Bridge etc, and you will have access to several restaurants serving every kind of cuisine. Most importantly you will pay a lot less. For example, the buffet breakfast including all hot and cold items costs less than what you pay here for just the continental option.

I stayed at Parkroyal Parramatta for one night for work. Before arriving, I called to ask about checking in an hour early. The call center agent told me there would be a $30/hour charge, but when I checked with the concierge upon arrival, they let me check in without the fee since it was close to my check-in time. This miscommunication was a bit frustrating. Parking is quite expensive, so it’s worth looking into alternatives if you plan to drive. Additionally, there’s ongoing construction, and noise starts before 8 AM. It didn’t bother me since I was there for work, but it could be an issue for holiday stays. Overall, the service was okay, but there’s room for improvement.
