I stayed at Novotel Wollongong Northbeach from April 17 to 19, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. It was my first time visiting Wollongong, and I was really looking forward to it. I initially wanted to book two rooms, but since they weren’t available, I settled for a queen room with two queen beds and ocean views. After driving 7.5 hours to get there, we were exhausted—only to arrive and find that the room was far from what we expected. The beds were actually two small double beds, not queens, and the room itself was incredibly cramped. The worst part was the mattresses—so old and saggy that it felt like we were lying directly on the floor. There was only one towel provided in the bathroom, and the fan exhaust wasn’t working at all. The overall room facilities were outdated, including the balcony, which definitely needed some maintenance. My family was very disappointed and blamed me for the booking, which made the experience even more stressful. For the price they charge, the quality and comfort were absolutely unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel and won’t be staying here again.

The location is great, next to the beach! The buffet breakfast has a good choice of food and with such a great view, although the pigeons and birds kind of ruining the outdoor seating area, which is a shame. The room is a bit disappointing, bad sound proof, next door partying all night and kept us awake. Had to file a complaint. Bed is also too soft to our liking. And there is a big cockroach and we have to call house keeping. The phone in the room is not working, so we have to use mobile to call reception. The drainage in the bath tube is not working well, so it’s flooded everytime we are taking a shower. And I would say there is room for improvement on services. Understand it’s a busy long Easter weekend for the staff at the reception and at the restaurant but could use more smiley faces.

Parking was an extra $35 per 24 hours. There was a 1.4% surcharge on card transactions, even with a debit card rather than a credit card. For me, that worked out at over $25, which is ridiculous. There is no way it cost them that much in transaction fees. In Australia, businesses can charge a surcharge for card payments, but the surcharge must not exceed the cost of processing that type of card for the business. The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) sets guidelines for surcharging, and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) enforces these rules. Interesting to see what would happen if I disputed this charge. I suggest paying cash, and remember to take extra for the security fee! Other than that, my stay was enjoyable. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean, and it had a great view. The staff are professional and friendly.

An amazing stay. The rooms were clean and inviting. The beds, pillows and sheets were fresh and comfortable. The shower pressure was stronger than my water pressure washer and I felt extremely clean. I would love to return for the delicious buffet breakfast overlooking the beach and morning waves.

We had a great stay at Northbeach Novotel. The location is amazing, the room was spacious, spotlessly clean and had a beautiful view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. When we arrived back after our event we had drinks in the bar and enjoyed listening to the live music. Breakfast the next morning was excellent too. Parking was very handy underneath the building. We highly recommend staying and look forward to staying again soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
