Reviews for Pier One Sydney Harbour

Our group had been planning a bucket list trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji for over 5 years, but were thwarted multiple times by Covid and various other scheduling conflicts, so we were incredibly excited when it finally came to fruition. First up was Sydney with the Pier 1 Sydney Harbor, Autograph Collection hotel as our first stop. We were hoping it would set the right tone for our 2 weeklong trip and boy did it EVER. Each of the three couples landed in consecutive days and the two before us told us we would enjoy it very much. They undersold the entire experience. My wife and I previously enjoyed Sydney and stayed in a hotel at Circular Harbor and wanted something slightly different so Pier One was an obvious choice. Tucked away UNDER the Harbor Bridge, the hotel does not reveal itself until just before you turn the corner toward the entrance. Humble and subtle, its beauty is how well it blends into the background. A part of the warehouse history, connected to the bridge and so near downtown you can almost see right through to it. The inside is as unique and iconic as so many of the Autograph Collections we have come to seek out in every city we visit. Inside, they have preserved the history of the building with wood beams and steel framing penetrating through the walls in the hallway in such a way that it feels as if the building is trying to show you its’ history. The rooms each of us had were nice enough (they are not the story here) with a suggestion that you choose rooms above the ground floor as you have to walk through the restaurant to get to them. Not that the experience impacted our friends experience materially, just a suggestion. The hotel bar was wonderful, and our group was unanimous in praise for the team of coworkers who served us our drinks and nibbles. Cheery and engaging, yet never intrusive. Always knowing when to come up to say hello and inquire about the next round or just engage in a quick conversation. As I stated earlier, the hotel was right around the corner from the Quay…it LITERALLY was 200 paces from a view of the Opera House. I took a few pictures of our view at the hotel entrance, 100 and 200 paces from the door. Yes, that is a picture of a Cruise ship next to the Opera House and another reason we were happy with the hotel location. Not seeing that outside our window every morning made our experience all that more valuable. If you have read any of my other reviews you will know I only write one when our experience is remarkable. I would have written this review if only commenting on the hotel, but I am compelled to write it based on what can only be considered an astonishingly extraordinary with the hotels Bell staff team….I believe his name was Eugene (Chief Concierge). As we were vacationing for 2+ weeks, we packed, well, everything and it was difficult to keep track of all our possessions. With so many possessions, it is hard to keep track of everything, and my wife left her PHONE in the cab as we exited at the airport. Eugene called the car for us at the Bell stand. Of course, we panicked and called the hotel with the slim hope that they could assist. Of course, we forget the name of the driver, service, color of the car…everything we could have remembered to help us find the cab with our phone. Eugene texted me 5 minutes after our call to the hotel and promised me he could find it. True to his word, about 30 minutes later and 90 minutes before our flight, he texted to inform me he found the driver and our phone would be curbside in 5 minutes. Of course, he texted about 15 minutes later to confirm. We left our time in Sydney pleased with our choice of hotel and truly thankful for the coworker team that ran/runs the hotel. I did not take pictures of the hotel and room as there are plenty of them. I thought the pictures of our view would be helpful. We’ll go back to Sydney to see a show at the Opera House (Hint: go on the Opera House tour) and will stay at Pier 1.

I recently stayed at Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection, and it was an amazing experience. This is another Autograph Collection property that I really like. The location is excellent—you can walk to most attractions in the city. The hotel was extremely busy during my stay, and unfortunately, I couldn’t extend for an additional night. Typically, hotels keep at least one room in inventory for emergencies, but that didn’t seem to be the case here, which was disappointing. I also appreciated the welcome gift provided for Marriott members—it was a nice touch. However, room #325 was not a good upgrade for an Ambassador member, and I would have expected something better. Overall, a fantastic stay and a property I would gladly return to, but I hope Ambassador upgrades are improved in the future.

My Partner and I booked Pier One for a small staycation in Sydney for her birthday and what an experience! Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff (Dianne) who was very helpful and professional. She enquired about the reason for our stay and through a bit of subtle questioning she found out what my partner likes to enjoy for a drink then had a bottle sent to our room with a hand written note. Absolutely 10/10 service. The room was very comfortable, clean and had a great view! The bed is very comfortable also, both of us had a great nights sleep! The hotel as a whole is amazing, great atmosphere, well appointed and in a great location! Will defiantly be returning and recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent hotel experience.

Design flaws in the room ruin the intended experience of this beautifully located hotel. An historic building that has been refurbished inside but not to the quality it deserves. The rooms are very modern and aesthetic but the bathroom is a huge problem area. The shower stall has a half glass door and a drain in the middle of the bathroom but the water spurts outside of the shower and goes anywhere but the actual drain. This is a major risk for guests and frankly a lawsuit waiting to happen. The hotel provided slippers but they get soaked and the one floor towel barely holds a small portion of the water that leaks. The magnifying mirror was installed with little thought around average height of a person. It’s very high and loses its utility as you need to point it down in order to see yourself in it. Black out blinds don’t fully close so if you need darkness to sleep, your sleep may be disrupted. Walls are also thin so you will hear doors slam throughout the day and night. Room windows are very small, make you feel like you’re on the basement level despite being on the 2nd floor Pros: bell people provide excellent service, beds are comfortable and location is right on the pier. Lastly, there is no master switch near the bed, which means you need to get up and turn every single switch off before bed or you’ll find yourself inconvenienced. It’s small details but they make all the difference from a 5 star stay to a 2 star If the intent behind the renovation was to address creature comfort for travelers and aesthetics, it fell short of its potential. I don’t think I’d opt to stay here again without the design flaws being addressed.

Beautiful Stay on the Harbour We really enjoyed our stay at Pier One Sydney Harbour. The location is absolutely perfect — right under the Harbour Bridge with incredible water views and just a short walk to The Rocks and Circular Quay. The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxed, and the building’s mix of heritage and modern design gives it great character. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a very cozy bed and large windows overlooking the harbour. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was tasty with good variety, though a bit pricey for what was offered. The only small downside was that parking and some extras came at an additional cost, which made the stay feel a bit expensive overall. Still, it’s a fantastic place to stay in Sydney — beautiful views, great service, and a memorable experience. We’d happily return!
