Reviews for Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport

First, what I liked: Generously sized king room, plenty of storage and free space, so we never felt cramped. Bathtub. Not many hotels I've stayed in bother with the bathtub, but I happened to have my Epsom salts in my luggage, so it was a really nice addition to the room. You really can't hear the planes much, even when they're right above the hotel. I also didn't find other guest noises very bothersome, you could hear some doors closing sometimes, but overall it was a very quiet stay. Can't fault the reception staff, they were always polite and tried to be helpful. However, I see what so many other reviews are saying about this being far from 5-star. Perhaps they should stop using 6-year-old awards on their advertising, too. What have they won recently? Are they still competitive in the area? I would daresay not. It's little things, like there not being powerpoints on both sides of the bed, so both of us couldn't charge our phones close by, and one had to use the other side of the room. There was another power point close to the bed, but it was a funny shape and was connected to the room lights, so if you wanted to use it, you needed to have the right type of plug AND be ok with having the lights on all night just so you could have power going to it. It's the no-brand cutlery in the room, that was probably bought from a dollar shop and feels like it's leaching heavy metals into your mouth when you use it. It's the fact that there's only one single microwave in the whole hotel, god forbid 100 rooms might all be trying to heat up lunch or dinner at the same time. It's us having to ask them multiple times to come remove the minibar so we could use the fridge space, even though we mentioned it when we first booked and they said they'd take the minibar out before we arrive. It still took them 2 days after our arrival for them to actually take it. It's the lack of laundry facilities, unless you want to pay $6-30 PER ITEM you need laundered. It's the "king bed" being two single beds pushed together and held together on top with a king sheet. There's a noticeable gap and the beds migrate apart if you're not careful. We woke up every day with terrible back pain. It's the room facilities. We went hungry out of spite, rather than use the room service or restaurant, because we felt we were being pushed to spend more money since there were no facilities in the room (fridge not big enough for a bottle of milk, no microwave, etc.) It's the parking garage, that kind of looks like something out of a horror film, and you are virtually forced to double-park in every spot (there is a valet service for this reason, but still). For $35/night it's obscene. Want an airport shuttle? It's extra. Want a toothbrush? It's extra. Want reliable Wifi? Oh you better believe it's extra, buddy. All little things in the grand scheme of things, but the devil is in the details! You can't call this 5 star. We initially booked 2 nights, and were looking to extend for up to 7 or 8 nights in total, but they kept raising the prices every time we wanted to put more nights on, and quoted us a price at the desk that was $80/night dearer than the same room online for the same night. Sure, we weren't booking our nights all at one time, but due to an emergency situation on our end, we weren't sure how long we were going to need to stay. You would think that longer-staying guests would be more valued, but I guess they'd rather roll the dice on having the room go empty vs giving the customer that is already there a good experience? Anyway, we found a hotel down the road that has way better facilities, was closer to amenities, and was cheaper to boot. Not sure why we weren't there from the start, but better late than never. If they hadn't kept raising the prices here, I wouldn't have found the better hotel, so thanks for that Stamford. It was overall a comfortable stay, but I can't say I'd be rushing to come back next time I'm in a tough situation, especially when there are so many options in the area that are more modern and competitive.

Hotel is at walking distance from Domestic Terminal. Rooms are fine but missing free basic amenities like slippers, comb, dental kit etc. Reception staff is not helpful at all. They did not even bother to send luggage to the room. Breakfast is good with enough options to eat. Overall just satisfactory experience.

The room was comfortable, a good location, and friendly check-in staff. Unfortunately, the worst pork ribs we have ever attempted to eat! They had very little meat on them, we had to return them as they were not cooked and then they were that tough we couldn't eat them! Luckily, we ordered the sweet potato fries. They were very nice.

The front desk service at the hotel was poor, and they couldn’t address guests‘ issues promptly. The waiting time was very long, making it not a very good accommodation experience. The shuttle bus experience was also disappointing. Guests had to carry their own luggage, and the driver’s attitude was poor, which made my trip even worse. The only advantage was that the sweet potato fries from room service were delicious.

This was one of the rare hotels I have been in, where I slept very well. AC was great / quiet. Bed and pillows were great. Staff cleaning the room daily was perfect. That being said, here is the underbelly of this experience. They have no quick shop. If you need a bottle of water, a coke or some aspirin, you're gonna have to hoof it 10 min down the road. The restaurant staff was very nice, but the front desk staff were awkward, strange and very unfriendly. There is not one free item in this hotel. Not even a cup of coffee in the morning. Would not stay there again.
