Uncommon Sense

January 18, 2026

This is a pretty run down, crappy old Mantra. The whole place smells of mould and the furniture and flooring could do with a decent clean. The showers run out of hot water after 10 to 15 minutes. The pool also needed some attention. Apart from that the location is good and at night it was pretty quiet.

Beware this Hotel if you are Aboriginal, got taken up and down the lifts over and over and over. The hotel management was excellent until night shift came on, suddenly bank card doesn’t work and the female manager organised to have security eject me with out my luggage or my personal items. When I asked how I was meant to even call an Uber (had all my phone and charger items still in my suitcase in the lobby), security laughed at me as they voided my guest card and told me to walk. I advise anyone of Indigenous or Islander heritage to avoid and highly recommend the traditionally Owned hotel in Palmerston. Permanent residence will antagonise you to breaking point…other than all that I had no complaints True God you mob.

A hotel with great potential The restaurant breakfast is run of the mill not bad but not good either. I ordered lunch in arrival and that was horrible. Steak sandwich was pulled beef and qas slimy the Grandchildren refused to eat it after the first bite. I ordered the Snapper omg rubber not hot the polenta cakes eith itcwere soggy and luke warm. And the Laksa sauce just completed unduited to the dish. No table service for meals in a 4 star hotel??? I asked to move from a 2 bedroom apartment to a studio and did yhis firstvup in the morning and said i would be back at 2pm and I would move my already packed items then. I also checked that the room would be ready as I was travelling with a 2, 5 and 6 yr old. When I arrived back the room wasnt ready I waited an hour to be taken to the exactly same 2 bedroom on a different floor. By this time the kids ere all tired snd upset. 45 minutes later I was finally given thecroom requested snd then waited a further 25 minutes for our luggage. Danielle one of the Managerscqas the only staff member that tried to help.Staff have limited cimprehension of whatvuou ask for and require training desperately. When I left i was then overcharged from the mini bar and had to call back for a refund of an $83. Seriously needs some Hospitality training forxstaff and a good look at the Chefs drilled and menu. The foyer is beautiful and the front Entrance has only steps no ramë.

The photos on the website are definitely misleading. I opened my door and the first thing I saw was the mold growing on the carpet, the drenched floor and the smell. The fire alarms go off at least once a day and any hour of the night. There was one point of the stay where the people next door were being disruptive, I called the front desk at midnight to advise them as I had to be awake at 5am, no answer. So when I told the staff the next day, they asked why I didn't call so I showed them my phone log. Just got a simple "oh..." then put the onus back to me as if I wasn't trying to sleep because I had an early rise the next day. To add, the shower water doesn't get hot and the air conditioner doesn't get cold. If you like really puffy pillows, you'll be alright. If you need a flat pillow I recommend getting one for $10 at big w. Don't use the decor pillows on the bed, they smell really bad. *Edit as of 29th Dec* It appears as if the owner has deleted the photos of the mold and room damage. I have re-uploaded one. They also trick you into signing up for the loyalty program, but don't actually give you the points.

Room was more for remote workers, clean enough but had to have both fans, a dehumidifier and the air con on to keep the room cool.
