Reviews for InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef

We recently stayed at InterContinental Hayman Island and had such a beautiful experience that we felt compelled to share a positive review. Before our trip, we had read quite a few negative comments online, which made us a little apprehensive. However, from the very beginning, our experience couldn’t have been more different. Prior to arriving, I emailed the team a few times to organise restaurants and day trips, and they were incredibly helpful and responsive. To our delight, they even upgraded our room without us asking — a really thoughtful gesture, especially as we were celebrating my mum’s 60th birthday. From the moment we arrived, everything felt seamless. The transfers were perfectly organised, staff were waiting for us as soon as we landed, and our luggage was taken care of immediately and delivered straight to our room. We never had to worry about logistics — everything just flowed effortlessly. The food was excellent throughout our stay. Dinner each night was fantastic, with particularly great steaks and a lovely Pacific restaurant experience. Breakfast was generally beautiful with plenty of options, and while we did notice slightly fewer choices one morning later in the week, overall it was still very enjoyable. What really stood out was the staff. Knowing that around 300 team members live on the island — most of them quite young — made us appreciate even more how dedicated and hardworking they are. Everyone was warm, friendly, and clearly doing their best to create a special experience for guests. While there is always room for refinement in service (as with any resort), we felt genuinely looked after. The resort itself is stunning and impeccably clean. We loved having two pools to choose from — especially the smaller, cosier pool near Bam Bam restaurant, which had a lovely atmosphere and music. The main pool is beautiful too, just more spacious and relaxed. Our Whitehaven Beach day trip was a highlight. The activity team were incredible — attentive, knowledgeable, and so welcoming. They made sure everyone was comfortable, well-informed, and having a great time. Yes, Hayman Island is a premium destination, and it is on the pricey side. But if you’re choosing to stay somewhere this luxurious and remote, it’s best to go in with the mindset that you’re there to fully indulge and enjoy without holding back. For us, it was a memorable and very special trip, and we’re so glad we went. Thank you!

Our stay at the resort was unforgettable. Everything was beautiful, clean, and extremely well organised. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was relaxing from the moment we arrived. Visiting WhiteSunday was also a dream such a stunning place and a highlight of our trip. I would especially like to mention Bruna from BamBam Restaurant. She was absolutely amazing: very kind, welcoming and professional. She always made sure we were happy, and she could translate a lot of things in Portuguese for us she gave us great local tips and recommendations about what to do around the area. Bruna also suggested delicious dishes at BamBam and helped us choose the best food options. She truly made our experience even more special. Highly recommended we can’t wait to come back!

Worst 5-star hotel we’ve ever seen in our life. We came here for our honeymoon and had a terrible experience. We were verbally harrassed and physically confronted in an aggressive manner by another guest at the infinity pool, with no staff or security present. We reported this multiple times, yet the hotel took no meaningful action and did not place any security or staff in the area the following day. Management was dismissive, showed no genuine apology, and acted extremely entitled. The hotel is severely understaffed. Dining is a mess: you must pre-book all restaurants, and if they’re full, there is no alternative place to eat, you can literally go to bed hungry at a so-called luxury resort. The activity team is completely disorganized. We signed up for a yoga class, our names were taken, and they forgot to enroll us. The property feels dirty, there are no staff by the pool to assist with orders, and service across the resort is chaotic. This place markets itself as a 5-star luxury destination, but delivers poor service, bad management, and zero guest care. Avoid at all cost.

Went here as part of our honeymoon. We had the best time. The staff was incredible and the location and facilities are stunning, they have so many activities to keep you occupied. They truly have thought of every detail to make your stay special. We stayed in a beach front pavilion and loved nightly entertainment of the wallabies. Definitely hike around the island and do the inner reef tour. Small note when booking to go to whitehaven beach on a paid excursion; ask if it will be high tide as it will be a very underwhelming experience.

We had an incredible dining experience at BamBam at the InterContinental Hayman Island, and a big part of it was thanks to Bruna. From the moment we arrived, she was welcoming, friendly, and extremely professional. Bruna explained everything clearly, and the duck curry and beef vindaloo were absolutely delicious. I would like to thank Bruna for always looking after our table and my family. Her attention to detail and genuine kindness made us feel truly special. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was simply excellent.
