Reviews for Rivoli Gold Class

Rivoli is such a beautiful building. What it lacks in modern cinema comfort and technology, it makes up for in its classic charm, from the foyer all the way through to the cinemas themselves. Just don't bother getting there until at least 15 minutes past the scheduled start time, especially with kids. This was my recent experience for a morning showing of a Pixar movie: 11.00am - Scheduled start. Adverts begin. 11.13am - Adverts end. Trailers begin. 11.21am - Trailers end. A couple more adverts. 11.23am - Actual movie start.

Beautiful Art Deco style cinema under the Village Cinema brand. ✅ Sound system and screen comparable to basic Hoyts. Didn't notice any difference compared to non boutique cinemas. ✅ Offer regular seating and Village Gold Class seating with a small dated Gold Class lounge. It has a private entrance off Camberwell Road. ✅ Friendly staff 🤵🏼♂️🤵🏼♂️🤵🏼♂️ ✅ Less busy than shopping mall cinemas and Lido. A more private experience. ✅ Rooftop bar 🍻 🍺 overlooking Camberwell Road. ❌ Steep processing fee if purchasing online. ❌ The fabric seats are uncomfortable and armrests are showing some wear. It doesn't recline unlike Hoyts, it is on the smaller side, the short half moon armrest is dated and uncomfortable. Seats are noticeably more upright and rigid than Lido and Hoyts. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 ❌ Movie start times are 30 minutes AFTER the stipulated screening time. Allow 30 minutes of ads.

Admire it for its old-world charm and unique character. If you’re seeking the latest cinematic technology, this is not the place for you. By all means the visuals and audio are not bad, but they’re not great either. Screens are pretty big but 3D quality is not so sharp and can get quite dark. The audio has always felt on the low side, there’s no Dolby Atmos just standard surround sound. The seats however are very comfy although they’re not recliners. The best part about Rivoli is it’s ability to transport you to another era, it’s truly magical to experience what it would’ve been like to go to the movies in the past. The decor and architecture is tasteful and decadent. Staff are always friendly too. I’ll always keep visiting just because there’s no place quite like Rivoli!

Such a beautiful cinema which needs to add more cult and retro screenings to get people through the door! It's such a distinct venue with so much character and it just seems so underutilized.

Such a great art deco cinema, popular for hosting premieres and always super hospitable. I’ve seen many a great movie there, and Mande many memories. Old school cinema with charm!
