Reviews for Atura Dandenong

We planned on camping but the heat was too much so we booked a last minute hotel room. Expecting a mediocre room after staying in pricy Melbourne we were shocked at the value. The room was clean, the beds comfy, the sheets fantastic, air conditioning that worked really well, and an amazing breakfast that was included. The staff have been incredibly friendly so far. We’re so happy we’ve decided to extend our stay for another night.

I recently stayed at Atura Dandenong during the weekend of the Melbourne F1 race. Although far from Albert Park, the hotel is very affordable which is rare for the race weekend. I found the room to be clean, spacious and had no issue with it whatsoever. The breakfast offering was quite good too, however coffee needs to be paid out of pocket. The hotel is close to many shopping centres and food. The online check-in option misleads you to believe that parking is only at the cost of $15/night, however, they have free parking at the front and an abundance of free parking at the adjoining businesses. The $15 fee is for extra secure parking at the back of the business, which is totally unnecessary given the hundreds of spaces nearby. I didn't enjoy the customer service experience. I found both men who worked at the reception desk to be rude and lacking manners- not just towards me but also towards other guests. They took a long time to check guests in, said things like "Do you get it now?" in a patronizing tone to other guests, answered questions incorrectly (causing a dispute) and were glued to their phones even when my husband was clearly standing in front of them for some time, ready to speak. They have a promotion where if you're staying for 2 nights or more and don't have your room made up/towels replaced, you can have a $10 credit from their restaurant. So we opted for this but it was disputed by staff who said it was only when 3 nights or more, which we annoyed about but accepted. But then we saw the wording on the back of the door-hanger which showed we'd been misinformed, we asked for a $10 refund which was still refused. There was a power outage during our stay and we didn't have hot water for >24 hours with no explanation from the staff, no apology, and not even a drink or coffee offered as an apology from the hotel. When we raised our dissatisfaction about the misinformation & hot water, it took a bit of arguing just to get the staff to reimburse anything at all. It's a shame the front face of the hotel are people who don't care customer service at all. You can wear a blazer, but that's not what makes a professional.

When we arrived to checkin the receptionist asked if our room was fully paid for! And we told him yes, we wouldn't be checking in if it wasn't! In addition, our room came with breakfast inclusive, however when we were having breakfast the next morning someone sent one of the cleaners to come and ask us for our room number which was weird! The food did not have allergen notes on them as well, which makes it hard for people with allergies to know what they are eating! Our room was supposed to be a deluxe room, however, there was no microwave in the room and we was told that anything from that room was going to be deducted from our bond fee! Kinda weird as there was no complementary coffee, tea etc. To top it up, the shower was broken. The staff there are also less friendly.

Great place to stay awesome breakfast that was included. The brewery downstairs was lovely and we were able to get a bite to eat at 3pm. Staff are very friendly highly recommend.

Really great hotel and always love staying here. Ordered the brownie sundae ($20 + $5 tray fee), and I was quite disappointed with the quality, quantity and what I received. The description on the menu was “warm gooey brownie” with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, popcorn, cream, fudge sauce, strawberries and banana. This was a lazily put together dessert that was not worthy of the $20 price tag. They initially forgot the brownie and when they brought it back, it was 3 bite size brownie pieces that were not “warm and gooey”, but firm and cold and there was a tiny drizzle of fudge sauce. The ice cream had melted. Furthermore the chocolate ice cream was definitely not premium that was worthy of the $20 it was priced at. More like the bland chocolate ice cream from those large Peter’s ice cream tubs. There were about 3-4 thin slices of strawberry and about 2 thin slices of banana. I was expecting whole strawberries and a banana. I regret spending this much on a sundae. Go to genuine chocolate bars like san churro or max Brenner where they lather their sundaes with melted chocolate and premium ingredients that are worth paying for.
