Reviews for O Brien Icehouse

We entered at around 9 am for a day out. Split payments were allowed, and staff were friendly. Being our first time skating, it was a brand-new experience for all of us. There was a free lesson where two members of O’Brien icehouse taught us basic skills on how to skate. It was an excellent experience and it is definitely one for us to remember. The rink was cleaned after we were there for approximately 1.75 hours. Canteen food was a bit overpriced seeing the cheapest item being water for $4.50. The rink clean and custom service was amazing. As we travel by public transport parking was an issue however the venue was very easy to locate. The price we had to pay to enter the rink was very reasonable. It was under $30 and skate hire was included. Although some injuries (one of my friend’s ankle bone skin peeled off) as the ice skates themselves were fairly tight, we had an amazing time. Would definitely recommend this place, and look forward to coming back soon!

Great Ice Skating Rink Experience I recently visited the ice skating rink, and it was a fantastic experience! The facility is well-maintained, and the ice was smooth and perfect for skating. The staff were friendly and helpful, making sure everyone was safe and enjoying their time. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skater, there's plenty of space to move around and practice. The rental skates were in good condition and comfortable to wear. Overall, it was a fun and enjoyable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great time on the ice!

This is a good skate rink, but I’ve been too a few and this one doesn’t have what it takes to be 5 stars. It doesn’t have a DJ doing any games, and it didn’t seem to have a sound system that the staff knew how to operate. It says in really big writing that you can download an app and choose the music yourself, like you find in lots of indoor entertainment areas these days. So I did, but the system was muted so there was no sound. 🫤. Then they turned on the sound but apparently it just stopped working not long after that. On the plus side it has no session times so the $35 I spent on admission I could have skated for as long as I’d wanted. It was quite expensive for a family of 4.

I take my eldest daughter ice skating here every few months, and she absolutely loves it! You’ll find a great mix of professionals and beginners on the rink, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. The crowd is generally quite friendly, which makes it a fun and supportive environment, whether you’re new to skating or more experienced. It’s become one of our favorite regular activities!

Overall, the experience was decent. The facilities are fine, but they do feel a bit dated.. The ice itself is well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful, but there's a missed opportunity to refresh and modernise the space. The biggest issue for me was the use of paper cups and plates when serving drinks and food. Since most people are enjoying their refreshments inside the cafe, there's really no need for disposable items. It would be much more sustainable (and pleasant) to provide proper glassware and reusable plates. For those who want take-away coffee or snacks, offering paper options would make sense—but not as the default. On top of that, their recycling efforts seem non-existent. In an era where sustainability should be at the forefront, this is something they really need to be addressed. A few simple changes could make a big difference, both environmentally and in improving the overall customer experience.
