Reviews for Hotel Windsor Melbourne
Stephanie
Attended The Hotel Windsor for a high tea and it was absolutely delicious. The food is excellent quality and I love the idea of unlimited sandwiches. The French sparkling wine is really tasty and of great quality, the customer service is really great they go above and beyond to cater to your needs and to make sure you are comfortable and happy. I highly recommend afternoon high tea at The Hotel Windsor. Thank you for the excellent food much appreciated service.

Great location, but many issues with this supposedly 5 star hotel. The rooms, although quite nice 90s does federation, are very tired. The tap in the bathroom could not be turned off and ran a trickle constantly, the net curtains were in dire need of a wash and the same green jelly bean that I spotted on arrival lay under the bedside table for our full 4 day stay. Also the 3 times we rang the front desk (mainly for the supposed pillow swap service) there was no answer. We also were not made to feel particularly welcome at the front desk on arrival. The incredibly loud racket from the service lane in the Saturday morning starting at around 5am should be considered when placing guests also.

This hotel has retained it's old world charm. The inside has period carpets and furnishings and very long corridors. Our room was light and airy, the bathroom quite modern. There were banquet rooms for wedding receptions as well as meetings. There is a pub attached to it that does meals. There are gardens just down the road which are a delight and the town hall across the street.

I stayed, with my husband, at this beautiful, iconic hotel, and it was everything I hoped for and more. I should not have been worried about the bad reviews I read. From the moment we walked in, we felt we were in another time, with the gorgeous old furniture creating such unique and charming atmosphere. We would not have been surprised if people were walking by with beautiful dresses and suits from the era of the Hotel. The staircase is amazing and we enjoyed walking each level to look at the different paintings on the walls. And the old elevator we discovered while walking in the floor hall is something to be seen. The grandeur of this hotel is undeniable, and although it definitely need renovations as some reviews points out, you wouldn’t want to lose the essence that makes it so special. After all, we didn’t come here to experience a sleek, modern hotel; we came to experience the history and character of the Windsor Hotel and this is exactly what the hotel offered us during our stay. The deluxe king size bedroom was extremely spacious, there was a bathtub in the bathroom which was so appreciated and the walking robe is big. Yes as some reviews points out, it was two beds put together, as for us this is what our grandparents had back then (in Europe) the beds did not feel out of place in the room, to the contrary. The dresser was an old beautiful dresser. Not so fond of old carpet for a hotel room but it was going with the style and again made the room a feel of being in a special place. We did ask for slippers as none were in the room, they were brought in an instant. The bathrobes were super comfy. The à la carte breakfast we thought complimented the high quality of the hotel. A buffet would simply not have been at his place in an old iconic hotel like the Windsor (although I prefer a buffet usually). It would have been nice to get more than one coffee but we cannot fault the menu offered. The orange juice, cappuccino and hot chocolate were excellent. Egg Benedict were done to the perfection and the toasted waffle was so good. Portion were for us big which was great to start our long days visiting Melbourne. The French server at breakfast (sorry we forgot to ask his name) was absolutely wonderful. He’s truly a gem for the hotel. The room was nicely cleaned each time we came back in the afternoon in our room. From the reception to the servers at breakfast, the cleaners or the concierge nothing has been at fault during our time at the Windsor Hotel. We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Windsor and we look forward to returning. If you're looking for a place that combines history, charm, and character, this iconic hotel is the perfect choice. Thank you so much to the staff for making our stay special!

Great staff, great service, great room. Only disappointment was the breakfast at 101. Paid $45 for eggs benadict, coffee and orange juice. There was no offer of pastries which is what we were informed prior to booking the breakfast
