Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy our stay at The Sands Torquay, which was especially disappointing as we were visiting for our 10-year wedding anniversary. Our room was located directly under the function room, and while we understand that events happen on Saturday nights, the noise from people talking loudly continued well past a reasonable hour. At 1 AM, we tried calling reception multiple times to ask when it would quiet down, but no one answered. The event finally wrapped up after 2:30 AM, but by then, guests were returning to their rooms, and we could hear showers running in the adjacent rooms, making it difficult to get any sleep. When we mentioned the noise at checkout, the receptionist was friendly and apologetic. They let us know that handover notes mentioned multiple missed calls overnight because the staff member was doing their walk-around. A simple solution could be forwarding calls to a mobile phone so guests can reach someone when needed. Unfortunately, the noise didn’t end there. On Sunday morning, it sounded like staff were back in the function room above us, cleaning up and moving furniture, adding to the disruption. The room itself was clean, but the bathroom needed a good scrub, as there was a lot of mould in the shower grout. Bed was also very hard and could use a mattress topper. Overall, it was a disappointing stay, and we wouldn’t choose to stay here again

For the price I paid I would’ve expected a lot more. The restaurant couldn’t take out sauce from a burger, the breakfast was met with a surcharge and was so bland and basic didn’t even include bacon and eggs or sweet muffins. The room wasn’t stocked with cutlery. Place was nice and close to the beach, room was clean.

Recently stayed here for a conference. I’m not a golfer but there was zero judgement from the staff and staff were welcoming and accommodating. Staff helped me with my luggage to the room and pick up from the room for check out. As I was a speaker I explained I needed the room for longer and got a 2pm check out with no issues at all. Hotel is fresh, clean, lots of natural light and great local art work available for purchase Great job Sands Torquay

Shirleys restaurant at The Sands has become a favourite for us -- it's busy, friendly, noisy and efficient and the food is yummy. The beer battered barramundi with chips and salad is really great. They do an amazing gluten free batter option -- thank you Shirleys (and The Sands) for making this effort for those of us with gluten free diets - your GF batter is a real win! Looking forward to trying the pizzas sometime

I agree with other reviews that the staff here are some of the most delightful people it has ever been my pleasure to meet. On top of that, the room was large, airy, comfortable and scrupulously clean (particularly given it was a per-friendly room). Huge tv, nice smelling bathroom products, effective aircon and a working fridge. There were gift bags for the dogs, as well as two dog bowls. This was a cute touch. (The bowls weren’t gifts - but ammenities!) The room attached to a small outdoor yard (courtyard size) with a solid and secure fence and an outdoor bin and pickup tool. There were several pet friendly rooms in a row (maybe six or eight), facing the car park. Plenty of places to walk your pet, but this was perfect for a really old dog with separation anxiety.
