Reviews for Tokyo Tina

Third time coming to Tokyo Tina, and it always finds ways to amaze me. Food is outstanding, with each dish offering a unique taste. The cocktails are great too, yuzus, gin and the signature ones. One of those places where sitting at the bar is a whole vibe - lively atmosphere and friendly staff who make the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a casual/modern dining experience!

The flavors here are very different from traditional Japanese cuisine. The gua bao, teriyaki chicken, and even the cauliflower are all distinct from what you usually find at other Japanese restaurants. I can only describe it as unique, but in a good way. If I had friends visiting, I'd be willing to take them here.

Second time here! Yummy food as always, the Japanese beer selection could be a bit more, then that’s perfect. You got have to try the Duck Bao and the steak! Of course, the fried chicken(make it spicy) with beer 👍

UPDATE - I returned not long ago for another meal here with a girlfriend and was blown away by the hospitality of the staff. Their attention to detail from taking our bags and our coats to providing still or sparkling water to triple checking any allergies, they really do go above and beyond in terms of service. The atmosphere is a little dated but is still a vibe. But the food this time impressed - sticking to the sticky eggplant because you just can't beat it but trying the cauliflower for the first time for no other reason but the server recommending it, I really loved it's flavour and texture and believe it to be an underrated star on the menu. Still not a fan of their desserts, preferring a McFlurry each and every time. I was impressed with the quality of the steak and, even though I don't know what habishi actually is, I can promise I loved it all the same. The crispy sticky eggplant was crispy and sticky and a true winner on the @tokyotina_ menu! The prawn katsu tastes like a gourmet Fillet-o-Fish and the mushroom bibimbap absolutely impressed me with its flavour sensation that was a perfect accompaniment to the aforementioned steak. My only gripe - Japanese fusion or not, serve coffee please and thank you.

My wife and I had an incredible date night at Tokyo Tina! This place perfectly blends Japanese street food with a modern twist, all in a hip setting with fun decor and outdoor seating. Firstly, the atmosphere was great. Cozy interiors with an option for outdoor seating (with heaters!) set the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner or a fun group outing. Now onto the important part - the food! We started with the salmon tartare, which was fresh and complemented well by the sesame cracker. Then came the beef tataki, which was hands down the highlight of our meal. The char on the beef was simply sensational, and paired perfectly with the ponzu and shiso. We also tried the umeboshi duck bao set; the duck was cooked to perfection. The strawberry snow with houjicha ice-cream and mochi was a delightful way to end our meal. While the cocktail list was a bit limited, my wife enjoyed a warm sake and I tried the miso old fashioned, which was a tad sweeter than I prefer, but still enjoyable. One of the best parts of our experience was the open kitchen. We got to say hi to the chef, and seeing the passion and care that goes into each dish made our dining experience even more special. Overall, Tokyo Tina surpassed our expectations. The food was exceptional - creative yet respectful of tradition, and the service was top-notch. If you're looking for a unique take on Japanese cuisine in Melbourne, this is definitely the place to go. Highly recommended!
