Reviews for Mercure Perth
Ruth Traill
We visited this weekend for two nights. Check-in was quick, but we were told the bare minimum which was our room number and breakfast time and which lift to use. We were not told the location of the pool or gym, or the floor number of our room (We figured 5 as our room started with 5, but you never know!). When we got to our room, I was very taken aback. There were stains on the carpet, two of the lamp lights needed to be adjusted to turn on (one loose globe, and one unplugged at the powerpoint). The curtains were stained. The bathroom shower head had several blocked holes, the exhaust fan was half an inch out of the roof on one side, and the old metal Kleenex box was still attached to the bathroom bench, rusted and half falling out. We had read some negative reviews regarding the breakfast, but we found the buffet to be quite nice with a lot of variety. The location was only a few minutes walk to Hay Street mall and a few nice places to eat. More restaurants were further into the city and are walkable, but it would easily be a 15-20 minute walk one-way. For over $650, we expected our room to be in far better condition than it was. And although there were no rude staff members, they were all pleasant, we expected far more attentive customer service for a 4-star hotel on check-in and departure.

The redeeming quality of the room was the bed - very comfortable. However, the state of the room was as follows: very prominent rust in the bathroom around the sink and Kleenex compartment. The water pressure was so aggressive, it was impossible not to flood the bathroom with its ricochet. There was a lightbulb missing from the nightstand lamp and therefore, it didnβt turn on. There was a stain on the curtain. Also, for safety reasons, I expected a deadbolt on the door but there wasnβt one. The staff were wonderful and very kind. When I brought up my issues, the attendant covered my $28 room service bill. Despite the comfortable bed and the kind staff, I donβt think itβs fair for this establishment to be calling themselves a 4 star hotel when its appearance suggested more of a 2 star at most.

The location of the hotel is perfect, walking distance to Elizabeth Quay and the city. Nice pool and good gym. The bathroom is a bit dated but works fine. Helpful staff and I appreciated the help from front desk re a late checkout.

Conveniently located within Perth CBD with friendly front desk customer services. Housekeeping services also worth mentioning as being friendly. Room cleanliness a plus during the stay. Hotel is within walking distance to most tourist attractions. Also very accessible to many public transports. Red Cat free service is only 3-5 minutes away on Hay Street. Pickup points conveniently located nearby for Pinnacle Tours is also a big plus.
