The Australian War Memorial is a world-class museum where Australians pay tribute to Australia's military forces — those who lived and served as well as the ones serving today. This renowned venue tells stories about those who have served or continue to serve Australia in armed conflicts by mounting exhibitions showcasing personal records and achievements by military servicemen and women as well as large technology objects and artworks that depict the realities of military service. The memorial shows the importance of the human element in conflicts and campaigns and encourages Aussies to be aware of Australia's involvement in conflict situations so they can understand future decisions about wars and peace-keeping opportunities.

With a well-designed theatrette and spaces for seated and cocktail events, this historic venue is the perfect setting for an unforgettable event. Aside from the impeccable setting, there are lots of things event guests and visitors can do at the Australian War Memorial Canberra.

There are numerous galleries to explore, including those of the First World War and the Second World War. The Roll of Honour contains over 100,000 names of servicemen and women who were killed in conflict or during peace-keeping operations. There are names on the plaques that go back as far as the Second Boer War, the British Sudanese Expedition and the Boxer Rebellion. The sculpture garden features the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There's also a Hall of Memory and a memorial pool surrounding an eternal flame.

An on-site cafe serves delicious food and coffee and is the perfect spot for a short break. Australian War Memorial events include the daily Last Post Ceremony and ANZAC Day. The daily Last Post Ceremony tells the story of one of the names in the Roll of Honour whilst ANZAC Day is when all Aussies commemorate our fallen servicemen and women.

Amenities at the Australian War Memorial Canberra include parking, assisted access, a carers room and custom lighting for events.

This memorial is a must for all ages but especially for our children. The displays are well thought out in order of history and there are staff placed in all the right areas to guide you. Very overwhelming if you choose to really read and digest the enormity of all on display. We didn't take the guided tour that is available but enjoyed walking at our own pace and experiencing some of the immersive displays that had audio playing. We felt proud to be Australian when we left. Very memorable.

Very engaging, moving and informative. Very well set up. It's huge and full of many different interesting things to see and do. Raced through 2 levels of 3 with 2 kids in only 1 hour because of time constraints. We missed a lot but it was still very engaging. Easy to spend 3+, 5+ hours there or do it over 2 days. Highly recommend. Google Maps look up the 'Australian War Memorial carpark' to find parking, or park on the road that goes around the back.

We were totally amazed by the size and details of the museum. From the outside, it looks big, but when you step inside.....Wow! The care, attention to detail, storytelling, quality of the displays, and the knowledgeable, friendly staff make this a must-see. The remembrance gardens are huge, with lots of different memorials, not only regiments but animals, wars, and countries. They're building, but there's still plenty of parking. There's also a cafe, lots of toilets, and a gift shop with some really cool and different things.

A very impressive site that commemorates and honours the bravery and sacrifice of Australian defenders and fallen. The Memorial's galleries and exhibitions explore Australia's involvement in major conflicts and help to tell Australia’s continuing story of service, sacrifice, and military history. Entry is free, and tickets are not required. We visited on a week day and joined an 80-minute (free) tour by an ex military veteran. The tour was of the highest quality in both content and presentation and had covered only the tip of what's on offer. We wished we had another week to explore the galleries and exhibits. Highly recommended.
