Hotel
•Canberra's Hotel Realm is a five-star hotel on National Circuit Barton, next to the Parliamentary Triangle. Found within walking distance of at least three national icons (Parliament House, the National Gallery of Australia and the National Library of Australia), it seems fitting that the hotel and its function spaces be of the multi-award-winning variety. Along with a slew of elegant guest rooms, five-star facilities, and casual and fine dining options, Hotel Realm offers a number of function and event spaces. Flooded with natural light and ranging in size, there are four boardrooms available for groups. Additionally, the Hotel Realm boasts a sophisticated ballroom (ideal for weddings) and stylishly designed High Courtyards. Hotel Realm is ideal for those visiting Canberra on business, locals in need of meeting rooms or space for a conference, as well as for larger-scale events like gala dinners.
Hotel Realm has become our favourite place to stay in Canberra – whether for work or a family holiday. The staff are genuinely courteous, attentive, and professional. Their SMS concierge system is a great touch – any request or query is answered promptly. The rooms are spacious and immaculate. Dining and entertainment options are excellent, not just at Hotel Realm but also at nearby sister hotels literally across the road, offering even more variety. After many stays in Canberra over the years, this has been our best experience yet. We'll definitely continue returning for the quality, service, and overall experience.
Let’s start this review by suggesting to the hotel that they should not be self claiming to be a luxury 5 star hotel, here’s why. 1. I stayed 3 nights on an important business trip and didn’t get ANY sleep. The noise from the street below was highly audible in my room. The room also overlooked the loading dock - plenty of noise from there also! Anyone staying here I would suggest not staying at the rear and not on the first level. 2. The food was good, however not fine dining or 5 Star - it was decent “pub grub”. Would have been nice after a long day to come back to your hotel and have a nice meal in a quiet space. Neither of which were available. The ‘restaurant’ I waited over an hour to be seated in was just the same food I could have ordered outside on the terrace. 3. Odd layout to the room. When making a coffee or cup of tea from the cabinet with the doors open, then you are unable to move due to other furniture place around it. Not sure of the thinking behind this, certainly didn’t feel like luxury. Staff were LOVELY. Bed was comfortable (if only I could have slept in it). Nice bathroom and great foyer. Lovely art hanging from the ceiling. The best part of my stay was entering and leaving! *to the hotel - no need to reach out to hear my concerns as I have already contacted you and received the “thanks for the feedback” reply.
I recently stayed at Hotel Realm and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the room was clean, modern, and well-appointed, providing a comfortable and stylish atmosphere. The bed was cozy, and the amenities were great. However, my stay was significantly impacted by noise from the bar downstairs. Even late into the night, the music and chatter were loud enough to keep my wife, my 2 year old daughter and myself awake until late in the night as our room was on level 1 above the bar Ostani. If you're a light sleeper or planning to get an early night, this could be a real issue. Second, breakfast was chaotic around 8 AM—there weren't enough tables, so we had to wait before finding a spot which was around the fireplace. The food itself was decent, but the overcrowding made it a stressful start to the day. Overall, Hotel Realm has a lot to offer in terms of comfort and cleanliness, but the noise levels—at least during my stay on level 1—were a major downside. If the hotel could improve soundproofing or manage bar noise better, it would be a fantastic place to stay. **Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)** – Good, but the noise was a big drawback.
The hotel itself is beautiful. Well designed and laid out, great parking, perfect position, lots of food options. The rooms are spacious and the facilities are all modern, well kept and clean, including the gym, pool and day spa. I do have some comments about the management. All of the staff were extremely helpful and courteous, and made the stay very welcoming. However: - Breakfast was more than an hour wait for food. Either the kitchen was under staffed or the menu too extensive for their capacity. - Room service menu was very limited which meant we carted our own food and drinks up from the restaurant. The QR code instead of a person we could call, meant even getting ice to the room was a task. - Both on booking and checkout, not a single staff member was at the desk for quite a long period of time (at least 6 groups waiting to checkout). Perhaps their scope of work is too broad, but the desk staff should be tied to it IMO. On the positive, the staff were so so friendly that when we did interact they almost made up for the rest.
Modern hotel, good conference room facilities, decent, clean rooms. No charging ports in rooms, and while it's nice there are Nespresso machines in each room, I was surprised the two free pods weren't replaced during the room cleaning each day. Other than that, everything as you'd expect from a decent hotel. Service desk was professional and friendly.
