This was a serendipitous find as we wandered in Newtown, and what a wonderful surprise! Our server/bartender Sarah was delightful and went out of their way to get finger limes for our delicious cocktails. My husband had the best lamb of our whole 2 week holiday in Sydney! My salad was perfect and the garden seating was so lovely.
A friend and myself ordered food at around 7pm on 25/1/2025. The place was at about 75% capacity so wasn’t too busy. It took around 20 minutes for both our drinks to be brought over. When the food arrived, both our orders (steak and lamb) were dangerously undercooked, so we sent them back. When they were brought out again, the kitchen gave us a complimentary steak on the house. The food that we ordered was overall tasty, however the complimentary wasn’t evenly cooked, being med-med well on one side and borderline rare on the other. Attached is a photo of the complimentary steak
We walked past the Bank and decided to try their menu. I did not expect the steak from the grill and charred lettuce to be so amazing. It was better than your average pub steak. One star deduction for the cheese burger. While it was good, I thought the beef patty needed more seasoning and the bun a little bigger. Also the menu heavily focuses on meats on the grill with only one burger option then eggplant Parma, roasted pumpkin and one pasta option. There are some share plate options. If you're looking for a steak and chips type pub, this is for you.
Replying to The Bank: people are not supposed to know that or have to bother with this kind details. Why two different menus? Just make it simple and easy for your customers. I usually like to come and have a bevvie at the Bank, and I usually have a good time. But the food I was served today was a total joke. 36 bucks for an eye fillet and here is what came to the table. A sad plate with four slices of meat without anything to accompany it. It's a pub, anyone would expect some fries or salad / veggies to go with your steak. Come on Bank hotel, you can do better.
Attended downstairs bar with some friends for afternoon drinks. We were asked by floor staff person if we had a booking, we did not and were told this was fine. Staff member gave us a table and menus. We ordered drinks and food and empty glasses and plates were not collected in a timely manner and we moved a few glasses to a free table behind us to create room. The same staff member who could not collect these from our table appeared to have no issues telling us to not put used glasses etc on the next table. The tone, manner and approach was unncessary , rude and petulant beyond belief. This same person then came over to advise we need to move due to a booking. At no point we were told there was a booking for the table, nor a sign on the table. She then said there was a limit of 2 hours per table. Again, not communicated at any point to us. When politely advise of the latter, this staff said it was seating policy on their website. The exchange just became absurd - i.e. I said we did not read the website before coming to the pub and was no mention of anything when we sat at the table. She then took off to 'security' and said to them 'well, this is gonna be interesting'. I cannot state how ridiculous this situation became for no reason. We left as it was absurd dealing with staff that are clearly inept communicators with zero focus on service. To the management team of this hotel - what a rubbish experience.
