•Barrenjoey House is a heritage restaurant, bar + guesthouse in Palm Beach, Sydney.
Had friends visiting from overseas and wanted to treat them to the local fare at the beach. Unfortunately, the meal was quite disappointing. It seems that the dining experience just isn't hitting the mark. As a loyal local for over 20 years, I truly hope they can improve.
Barrenjoey House, Palm Beach. Right, so, cocktails? Solid. Really good, actually. They know their way around a shaker, that's for sure. Service? Spot on. Attentive, friendly, the whole shebang. Now, the seating. If you can snag a spot out front, by the street, do it. That's where the magic happens. On a sunny day, with a cocktail in hand, watching the Palm Beach parade go by? Perfect. It's like a live-action postcard. The atmosphere is chill, the vibe is relaxed, and the whole experience is just… pleasant.
I had high expectations for Barrenjoey House Palm Beach, but the experience fell short in more ways than one. The steak I ordered medium arrived rare, with a burnt exterior disguising an almost raw center—more of a culinary identity crisis than a premium meal. The restroom layout also left me baffled, with urinals placed so close that I inadvertently made physical contact with a stranger. Not exactly the kind of intimacy I was expecting from a fine dining establishment. To top it off, the menu prices suggested a luxury experience, but the execution didn’t match. At this price point, I expected refined service, exceptional food, and a setting that didn’t feel like an architectural oversight. Instead, I left feeling like I paid top dollar for a lesson in disappointment. Would I return? Only if they fix the food, rethink the restroom layout, and perhaps throw in a little extra personal space.
Lovely room and stunning bathroom both with views of Pittwater. While the room is small, the indoor/outdoor lounge available for guests, is large. Food in the restaurant was delicious and the service could not have been more friendly. Perfect weekend getaway to a beautiful area.
I had to do it. Sad to do it, but it is what it is. You expect a little more when you pay over $40 for fish and chips. They got our order wrong. Funny when people complain Sydney is over priced. Do not recommend at all. Nearly $100 for a couple of drinks with a battered piece of fish and some chips. Gouge of the century. Had better food for literally 1/3 the price at a diggers club.
