Was a beautiful place to go to for friends wedding. Looking north east west or south the views where amazing and as the sun sets the places becomes magical with the glow from the setting sun and the mountains. Food was good for the reception drinks was great. Had a few issues for the night before and they tried their best to help and provide a back up for things.
This is a great location to anchor to fully experience the Hunter Valley. The garden suite (ground floor) are a little dated but very clean, spacious (except bathroom) and all the mod - cons. It is a little dated but well maintained. The common areas are excellent and consistent with the local homestead/winery theme. I would recommend a stay for 2-3 nights.
At $750 for one night you expect perfection. But the bathroom was tiny and the breakfast a bit of a letdown - the coffee was awful and juices not freshly made. But the hotel is beautiful and the grounds lovely. We are at the on site restaurant and ate every morsel on our plates. Delicious food.
Probably the best place I’ve stayed in Australia. Right in the heart of the Hunter valley. Great swimming pool and jacuzzi area. Lovely outdoor space overlooking grounds with wild kangaroos. Several fire pits to sit by when cooler outside too which was a really nice touch. Rooms very clean and done to a very high standard. Will definitely be back!
We recently enjoyed a four-night stay at Spicers Guesthouse in late July 2024, and while there were many highlights, there were also a few aspects that left us wanting more. First, our upstairs suite was truly lovely—spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable, making it a delightful place to unwind after a day of exploring. The serene ambiance of the guesthouse was a significant plus. We were excited to dine at the on-site restaurant, which came highly recommended. The food was indeed excellent, showcasing high-quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. However, we found the prices to be quite steep. Unfortunately, our dining experience felt rushed, as we were quickly seated in a less-than-ideal corner of the restaurant and hurried to place our orders. The service, though efficient, felt somewhat cold and impersonal, which was disappointing given the otherwise beautiful setting. On a positive note, the wine selection was exceptional, making it easy to find something to suit our tastes. One evening, we opted to dine outside from the bar menu, which was a much more pleasant experience. The atmosphere was relaxed, and we appreciated the change of pace. Breakfast each morning was underwhelming compared to what we expected from a hotel of this caliber. The cooked breakfast options were satisfactory, they didn’t quite match the standard we had hoped for. We also booked a private tour through the hotel with Brendo's Tours, priced at $270 per person. While we appreciated the fun and informative experience, it ended up being shared with two other couples, which felt more akin to a bus tour than a private experience (it was a good day for Brendo!). However, we did enjoy our lunch at Bistro Molines, which was by far the highlight of the day. Overall, while our stay at Spicers Guesthouse had its share of positives—particularly the suite and the quality of the food—service in the restaurant and breakfast offerings left room for improvement. There were moments that felt rushed and lacking warmth, which detracted from the otherwise cozy and inviting atmosphere of the guesthouse. It's a beautiful place, and with some adjustments, it could truly offer an exceptional experience.
