Good value rooms, compact but clean with comfortable bedding,. A little out of town but free use of 9 hole golf course, nice garden setting, good walks nearby - an indoor pool would make it complete. The original main guest house building has a lot of charm and history, has had extensions but not completely out of character. Great restaurant, set 2 or 3 course dinner menu with good food options. Great service although food delivery was a little slow this night due to a big wedding on, but food was well worth the wait. Bar prices very reasonable.
We stayed at Craigieburn in a 2 night stay in the Southern Highlands. We love the beautiful grounds and the large lounge area with its fireplaces. This stay had a deal that included breakfast. Since it was early in the week and they were not busy they took the sensible move for cooking a hot breakfast to order rather than having a buffet which we preferred. We had dinner at the restaurant both nights and appreciated the good food, wine and friendly staff. The new chef presents his dishes beautifully. All in all the stay was more than we could have expected and contributed to a great couple of days in the Southern Highlands.
We enjoyed our stay, however I was told there would be one flight of stairs to our room and there were three! (No lift). The hotel itself is a lovely historic old homestead, built in 1885 and later converted into a hotel. Unfortunately the rooms are looking a little tired and could do with some money being spent on them, particularly given the price we paid (over $500 per room per night, I’m certain prices were jacked up the weekend we stayed due to an event on at Centennial Vineyards). Hickory’s, the restaurant was clearly understaffed. We very much enjoyed our dinner the first night, however the service did not match the standard of the food. Both mornings the breakfast buffet kept running out of bacon, eggs etc and not enough attention was paid to keeping the food items replenished. Event or not, if they’re going to charge five star prices, then five star service should be provided. Oh and a credit card surcharge for a large hotel chain is a bit on the nose, that’s just the cost of doing business! I appreciate small businesses needed to add a surcharge, however large hotel chains that do this are downright cheeky. It really does leave a bad taste in one’s mouth!
We had such a relaxing break here. What a beautiful place! I loved the smaller scale compared to larger resorts. We enjoyed the free tennis and spending time in the beautiful gardens. The lounges with fireplaces and the spots to sit on the verandah. I loved the historic feel of the place - so much nicer than a shiny new resort! Thanks for a great stay
Very much enjoyed our overnight stay. Our room was adequate and extremely clean. Breakfast was buffet style and everything was fresh and tasty. The gardens and surroundings are beautiful. The night was whisper quiet and the sky full of stars. We sat out on the porch with a bottle of red and just chilled. It's a lovely old building that only adds to the ambiance. We've already planned to come back for a weekend in autumn to give the 9 hole golf course a run.
