Recently stayed here for my birthday and the partner decided to surprise me with an ocean view king room. The price point was astronomical ($700 per night) so we had high expectations but nothing out of the ordinary. The room was spacious and the views were amazing but that is basically where your money goes. For the cost we expected well above standard, but it was actually less than. There was no coffee machine in the room, only budget instant coffee sachets, so couldn't even make a nice coffee to enjoy on balcony and look at the (expensive) views. There was a spa bath on the balcony, but not even a robe or slippers were provided which you expect in a luxury room with a bath. The bed was hard and basic and there were no additional complimentary comforts you would expect in a luxury room (soaps, shampoo and conditioner were all that was provided and attached to the wall, one 100ml milk for 2 nights) The worst disappointment was breakfast and the restaurant in general. 'Free' breakfast was some basic fruit, yoghurts, bread and pastries. You had to pay MORE for any hot food including eggs and bacon. Absolute joke. To add onto this, the dinner menu was extremely limited, very overpriced and basic. The meals were underwhelming, especially for the price point. Everything had an additional charge, 10% extra on the weekend, $8 extra for room service. For the price being paid all of this should be complimentary. Extremely disappointed, definitely won't recommend to any friends and won't be back.
I stayed at Coral Sea Resort on September 11 and was deeply disappointed. I do not recommend this hotel if you care about cleanliness, peace, or a good night’s sleep. In the middle of the night, around 2 AM, I found two cockroaches running around in the bathroom. It was disgusting and terrifying. Knowing that cockroaches often indicate poor sanitation, I immediately called the front desk. Greg came to help but couldn’t fully resolve the issue—one cockroach remained hiding in the bathroom. He sprayed insecticide, which left a strong chemical smell that made it hard to breathe, but the cockroach was still there. I was refused a room change and had to spend the night anxious and unable to sleep. To make matters worse, there was also a large moth fluttering around the room late at night—I even have a video of it. Between the cockroaches, the moth, the chemical smell, and the noise from outside and early morning workers, it was impossible to rest. What’s more, I found a hair on the bedsheet that hadn’t even been used. Hygiene is clearly not a priority here. I paid over $320 for this stay and expected a clean, comfortable, and safe environment. Unfortunately, Coral Sea Resort failed miserably. The management’s response to my complaint has been unsatisfactory—they blamed the “tropical location,” but other hotels in Airlie Beach at half the price didn’t have these issues. I saw the manager's reply but I couldn't reply below it, so I have to clarify here. It's shameless for them to say the night manager found the slider open - he's never been to check my window that night, he only checked the toilet and then left. For a so-called high-end hotel, it is astonishing that they would fabricate such a story and even claim there were no cockroaches—when the night manager himself admitted to seeing one and watching it crawl into the gap by the bathroom door. The fact that the hotel refuses to acknowledge this reality and instead tries to shift the blame onto the guest speaks volumes about how poorly the place is managed.
Recently stayed for a couple of nights at Coral Sea. I mostly have positive things to say. Only negative is I found the beds uncomfortable and had a bit of a sore neck back next day. The staff were all pretty great. Lovely Irish girl on reception was friendly and helpful. Pool was fab, pool bar had some good specials, a little turtle surprised us from our sun lounger by poking its head out the water, location was great - we would definitely stay again.
Extremely disappointing stay – overpriced and far from luxury We initially booked an Ocean View Twin Room at Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach. The room was shockingly small, offered very little space for our family, and the amenities were extremely basic. For $460 per night, this was far from value for money. Hoping for a better experience, we upgraded to a Two-Bedroom Apartment. Unfortunately, this turned out to be even worse. The apartment is tired, outdated, and clearly has not been renovated in a very long time. The furnishings are worn out, the bathrooms were not properly cleaned, and the entire place carried a musty, sweaty smell. The sheets were by far the worst part of our stay – thin, rough, and extremely uncomfortable. They felt scratchy against the skin, caused itching through the night, and left us questioning whether they were properly laundered at all. At this price point, you expect crisp, fresh, hotel-quality bedding – not sheets that feel unhygienic, recycled endlessly, or possibly infested. It was impossible to relax or feel clean in such conditions. The stairwells and corridors were also dirty and poorly maintained, further adding to the sense of neglect. For $600 a night, this was completely unacceptable. Breakfast was another disappointment – a very basic continental spread with no sense of quality or care. Absolutely not what one expects from a property marketing itself as “luxury.” Overall, this is not a luxury resort by any standard. The pricing is unjustified, the upkeep is poor, hygiene is questionable and the entire experience was deeply unsatisfying. We were eager to check out and leave – a sentiment no guest at a true resort should ever feel.
The resort exceeded all my expectations. The room offered breathtaking views that changed beautifully throughout the day—I never grew tired of them. The food and service were outstanding; I even had the best pasta of my life here, despite having traveled frequently to Italy and lived in New York City. A special thanks to Dylan at the reception, who went above and beyond by arranging a last-minute air trip for me. He contacted multiple agents and made it possible for me to enjoy one of the best tours to Heart Reef. Truly unforgettable.
