Excellent location along the river, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have the capacity to cater for a large crowd, without feeling over-crowded. The food was tasty, but it wasn't particularly special. Also, when you order a meal with 'salad', I would argue that the customer expects more than a few lettuce leaves drenched in dressing. Why no tomato? Cucumber? Onion? Nothing but leaves. It was also disappointing that they have a drinks menu that includes cocktails and mocktails, but could not serve these on the day we visited as "there is no one that is working that can make cocktails". This is surprising that not one of the 6 staff they had behind the bar can make cocktails, but they can pour beer or make a mixed drink. For a place that looks so lovely, is so well situated, and is a bit pricey, I thought the lack of table service... kinda sucked. You go to the bar to order, they give you a buzzer, and you go to pick up your food, cutlery and condiments. The contrast between the lack of service and the location/prices, I really am not sure who their target demographic is.
Really lovely spot by the river at Brisbane Powerhouse. The prices are reasonable, but I think I was expecting more based on the menu descriptions. The food was good, but fairly basic, while the menu talked it up to be more than it really was. Service was helpful and friendly, but you need to order at the counter and then pick up your food when it's ready, a little tricky for a single diner trying to save their table from the incoming lunch crowd. I would come back though, as they have a nice and varied menu which seems to change regularly.
Lovely food and a great atmosphere. We got a couple of kids meals and a couple of sharing plates. Great selection of drinks too.nice place to sit back, take in the river views and people watch.
Lazy lunch at Mae's Bar & Kitchen today. Fish & Chips and a Naked Cheeseburger. By naked the kitchen was able to accommodate a request for no bread without an issue. The food was standard fare, however the chips were overcooked and dry. A couple of things. You need to order at the bar. There isn't anybody to seat you or tell you this. We had to ask and were told 'it's on the menu' - but we also had to ask for the menu. There is an okay selection of drinks on tap and behind the bar. We couldn't find a wine list so just drank cider and ginger beer. At Mary Mae's you're paying for the view, not the food.
We recently visited Mary Mae’s Bar & Kitchen, and it was a thoroughly disappointing experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was shockingly rude. The staff seemed disinterested and irritated by basic questions about the menu. Our server was particularly unfriendly, making us feel unwelcome throughout our order. To make matters worse, the food was severely overpriced for the quality. The portions were small, and the dishes lacked flavor and creativity. Given the high prices, I expected a much better dining experience. Adding to the unpleasant experience, the trays were dirty, which is unacceptable for any restaurant. The only reason people seem to be coming to Mary Mae’s Kitchen is because of its great ocean view location. However, a nice view does not make up for poor service, overpriced food, and dirty chipped serving trays.
