Really a great place to spend whole day with family and friends. Very beautifully arranged wildlife and other stuffs. The cafe's food and coffee was amazing. Overall had a great time! Kids will enjoy the dinosaur garden & level 4 wildlife section. Highly recommended for spending a hot summer day when the UV index is 11 !
I recently took the family to Queensland Museum Kurilpa | Brisbane, and they had a wonderful time. The museum has been recently renovated, including a new food court. However, be prepared for premium prices - a basic meat pie costs $10.50, and children's meals are around $25. The prices are extraordinarily high, so I strongly recommend bringing your own food and snacks. The museum displays were excellent, with the dinosaur and insect exhibits being particular highlights for the children. My personal favorite was the extensive mineral collection, which showcased nearly every type of rock I've ever encountered - it was truly eye-opening. I was hoping to find information about Captain James Cook, the famous explorer who mapped Australia's East Coast, but unfortunately wasn't successful in my search. The museum features extensive exhibitions about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. While these displays were informative, in my personal opinion, I would have appreciated a more balanced representation of all aspects of Australian history, including more content about European settlement and development. Regarding practical matters, the facility is well-equipped with plenty of restrooms throughout. Parking is available on-site, with a flat fee of approximately $17-18 for the day.
Great place to spend a few hours with the kids. There's frequently different exhibitions on, so good to keep an eye out! Our kids particularly liked the dinosaur exhibitions, or science-related themes. The museum is quite large with lots to explore, alongside a few cafes and a small restaurant. A fantastic place to spend a few hours with the family when in the city, and the staff were very friendly.
This is a highlight for anyone interested in natural history. Beautiful specimens in really thoughtful and well curated displays that have character and allow for such appreciation. I enjoyed the surprise of the specimen drawers on the uppermost level, along with some live reptiles and insects there. Air conditioning was lovely on a hot day and staff are clearly helpful and passionate. Nice layout that makes it not feel crowded, and plenty of seating amongst the exhibits so that if you rest you are still in close proximity to displays to enjoy, which I find rare in museums. Very pleased to see an acknowledgment of Native Custodians/ apology in a prominent place on the wall. Easy to reach on public transport and the general exhibits are free. Truly a spectacular collection of items and I will be back next time I am in Brisbane
We went to see the Ancient Egypt exhibition. It was excellent and well worth the entrance fee. We were really impressed with the vast number of artefacts; admittedly, some were replicas of original pieces, but the real items were absolutely amazing how well preserved they are. Highly recommend everyone goes to see this. However, keep in mind younger children with a short attention span may get bored easily (we went without our toddler for this reason and enjoyed it that much more). We have also been to the Jurassic World Lego exhibition and the Dinosaurs of Patagonia exhibition in the past. Both were equally as excellent.
