The Royal Exchange Hotel is synonymous with Queensland's entertainment scene for locals, visitors and students across the city.
Sitting on High Street in Toowong, just off the banks of the Brisbane River, we're renowned for our relaxed atmosphere, huge selection of ice cold beer on tap, live entertainment and of course, our giant Beer Garden.
We've been a local institution since 1876, and remain one of Brisbane's last iconic pubs today.
Despite the changes we've gone through over time, we've retained our unpretentious atmosphere and charm, which is why generations of locals, students and visitors continue to return.

Unfortunately not what I used to be but still goes alright. I remember when I was a boy and I could walk up to the bar with a $10 note, get 3 schooners of gold and then would walk away with change. Now it is more expensive. Haven’t been on a Wednesday night in a few years but it used to go off coz it was student night and all the uni students would rock up form UQ and maybe some of the lesser units. Last went to the RE on a Sunday for a sneaky Sunday sesh with the boys (shout out to the boys) and it was just Middle Aged tradies and a few college stragglers. I saw a few of the older tradies try to crack on to the young college women but good on the women for having standards (unlike me). Floors are still sticky but it is now closed in and air conditioned. Don’t think the air con keeps up with the summer heat on a scorcher day but at least it is trying. Overall the venue is pretty accessible and is only a short distance from the Toowong station. Fortunately only a 17 minute walk from my place too. The only downside is that if you are coming from the Toowong train station you either need to wait for the traffic lights or take the p*** tunnel under high street. Last time I took it I saw someone urinating in the tunnel and I also saw 2 stolen shopping trolleys and some soiled underwear (yuck). It did not detract from the RE and had no official association with the venue but i reckon the RE should hose down the tunnel and clean it up. I wonder what happens to the tunnel when there is heavy rain - pls let me know in the comments.

Came in for a beer and a steak. Beers are cheap and cold, steak was perfectly cooked. Wait staff are lovely and courteous. Chelsea in particular was lovely and made my girlfriend and I feel welcome and comfortable. Thanks RE! We'll be back for sure.
