35 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf VIC 3006, Australia
Restaurant
•Melbourne's funkiest Thai restaurant! It’s hard to walk past Southwharf’s BangPop and not be drawn in. The fresh and delicious Thai smells, the bright colours, the inviting modern interior, and the bikes that line the exterior. It all seems to gesticulate wildly at you, telling you to come on in for a good time. Not just a name that describes the look and feel and taste of the popular restaurant specialising in Thai street food, the titular “bang” actually translates to mean a village situated on a stream. Which this is. If nothing else, BangPop boasts one hell of a view of the Yarra and the city skyline. But then, it does boast much more. Delicious Thai dishes designed for sharing, a bustling atmosphere, and a large, cheery industrial interior. Put it this way: BangPop suits functions, whether a large and raucous dinner, a unique launch party or corporate drinks. BangPop is found along Southwharf Promenade, overlooking the Yarra and the city. It’s easiest to walk or catch a tram down Spencer Street, then wander down by the water. Southern Cross is the nearest train station.

I had a lovely time coming here to chat and catch up with on of my friends. There was a convention happening at the building next to us. We ordered a pitcher of a cocktail and it was quite delicious. We ordered chips, spring rolls, coconut rice, and green curry. Everything came out very fast and was so delicious!
Very nice food and attentive, friendly staff - thank you! They were packed full at the time of my visit and turning people from the door as no tables available. Hovever, they managed to seat me by the bar, even though I thought no chance as saw people leaving from the door but asked anyhow. The food was very nice and tasty - recommended. Thank you! A positive experience.
I love coming to BangPop. The menu is huge (including the cocktail list), they easily cater to dietary restrictions including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets. The menu is also halal. Great spot for a relaxed meal on the Yarra.
I celebrated my birthday dinner at Bangpop, and it was honestly amazing! We picked a riverside table, and the view, food, and vibe were all perfect. I’ve officially become a huge fan of their Kai Kluk Paeng Tod, roti bread, and peanut sauce — absolutely delicious! Honestly, that’s one of the juiciest chicken tenders I’ve ever had, with perfectly balanced spice and sauce levels. Their fusion-style Sticky Mango Rice totally surprised me in the best way. And the Butterfly Breeze cocktail was so good — sweet, refreshing, and you can barely taste the alcohol. I’m definitely coming back and celebrating many more special occasions here 🌻.
Had a lovely lunch at BangPop yesterday. Forgot pics of entrees but they were lovely, spicy chicken tenders, spring rolls and prawn crackers. Mains were beef cheek massaman curry, chicken pad thai and roti with peanut sauce, all delicious and the front of house guys was delightful!!
