Went to BeerBrass for an evening drink and coffees. Location is along the Yarra River with indoor and semi outdoor table and seating. Had to wait to be seated and was told there was no room for 5 of us, to which we suggested us squeezing into one table. Apparently it was reserved and we would have to leave in 10 minutes, they never showed up so we stayed longer. Nice view of the river and foot traffic, can see small boats and other city views from the tables which is nice. Can be a bit noisy but that's the location. Ordered some coffees and drinks. Coffees tasted standard, nothing special but definitely drinkable. Art was not bad either. Prices are reasonable, maybe even slightly cheaper than some other places along the river with the same views and seating. Food looked nice though didn't order any this time. If a nice sit down along the river and some people / river / city view is your thing, you'll like it.
As pictured, we ordered a sangria jug and shared the small/sharing plates of wedges, halloumi, lamb and flatbread, and tuna. In total this cost $150 and fed almost three people. The jug is definitely worth it and I would come back to sit outside and share a few drinks with friends in the future. The plates of food were decent, with the tuna being my personal favourite of the dishes chosen.
It wasn't the Spanish paella I had in mind, but it had plenty of seafood. The prices were reasonable considering Melbourne prices. The staff were not very friendly, but they were not bad.
Bear Brass is enjoyable for people watching, the city view, the music, the staff, and great food. Last week, I decided to try their mushroom and chicken pie. It arrived looking so delicious, and it didn't disappoint. Big chunks of chicken, which were held together with the mushrooms with a minimum of 'gravy'. This was fine, was the jus on the plate was so tasty and added the moisture. Nice flaky pastry. I really liked the confit leek... enough to have wished there was more of it, perhaps in larger pieces. And the watercress was more than just decoration. I'm not sure I've had it before...it added freshness and was really nice. Another great BearBrass experience.
$60 for drinks.. which is pricey - especially when you order a drink and the lavender haze ice cube takes up half the space in an already narrow glass with not much alcohol 🤨 the jug drink was nice but also smaller compared to what we’re used to. also took 15-20 mins to get my drinks, dont think the sever put the order through till i had to ask another server about it, and it wasn’t even crowded.
