•Cochin Richmond (pronounced co-shin) is a casual but slick 60-seat restaurant and bar with dark timbers, earthy interiors and contemporary lighting. The tapas-style share menu features tapas style French Vietnamese dishes like sautéed soft shell crab, beautiful duck a l’orange and tender chateaubriand.The drinks menu is wide and varied with specially designed cocktails, the usual suspects in spirits and a comprehensive wine list focusing on French wines.Our Bar and 60 seat Dining Room caters for sit down lunch and dinner functions as well as cocktail parties and other stand up events for 100 people.Whether you are planning a corporate event, a family function or other special event, Cochin offers the very best and is an outstanding value proposition.For large groups over 6 involving a sit down lunch or dinner we have a choice of 2 set menus at $55 or $65 per person. These 2 set menus are available Tuesday to Sunday, and are the choices for a Friday or Saturday night sitting.

I went to Cochin for a foodie meet-up in June and enjoyed every dish. The quail was really delicious and it is definitely the dish of the night for me. I will go back for it. The service was great and thanks for taking care of 20 foodies at the same time.

Cōchin — supposingly Vietnamese with a French twist, except the concept seems to have been lost in much of the menu design, or inadequately showcased in our Feed Me option. Hits and misses in the dishes we had; standouts being the fried quail and chateaubriand, perfectly executed in texture and taste, and were common favourites in our group. Other dishes seemed to lack the finesse in bringing a great idea to fruition (like the crispy green rice prawns); in other cases the flavours were not balanced (like the prawns in coconut milk). Service was welcoming, with staff extending greetings like to a friend whenever we crossed paths. However on balance, there isn’t really a compelling reason for me to return, not least because Melbourne has many Asian fusion options.

A lovely restaurant with amazing food and drinks. Staffs are accommodating with food requests. The highlight is the Tom Chien Com and chicken salad, and we really enjoyed the coconut spicy margarita too!

We had a fabulous birthday dinner with the “Feed Me” banquet. Every dish was excellent! All dietary requirements very well catered for, including a dairy free coconut creme caramel. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend!

DELIGHTFUL MODERN VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT ON SWAN STREET Caught up with a friend and we decided on (a very early) dinner at Cochin. We arrived at 5:30 and, unsurprisingly, were the first guests for the evening. The restaurant interior is modern, comfortable and spacious.. plenty of room between tables. It has a very well stocked bar as part of the restaurant (shares the dining hall). Large windows onto Swan Street afford you a good opportunity to watch the (Richmond) world go by. Our waiter, Jason, turns out to be the owner as well, so we were in good hands. We interacted with two other staff during our dinner and they were all excellent - anticipating need, topping up drinks, explaining menu items... clearly the restaurant invests a lot of time in training :) We left it to Jason to recommend a selection of dishes and we were not disappointed. Every dish was beautifully presented and explained. We were offered time between courses and were not at all rushed. The restaurant filled fairly quickly after about 6:30 but the noise level never became a problem. I had a fruity white wine and my companion had a wicked "Sally Saigon" cocktail. Food wise - we had a delightful combination of crispy prawns (in a delicious savoury crumble), scallops, prawn coconut, a crunchy chicken salad and shaking beef with green beans and coconut rice. The dishes worked well together and each acknowledged its Vietnamese heritage with delicate aromas and flavours. We were fairly full after that but couldn't resist the "coconut cake special". We requested one between the two of us and the waiter very kindly came back with a larger serve and lots of strawberries (see picture). Overall it was a really pleasant experience - service, ambiance, food and drink quality. Customers with mobility issued will be fine here as there are no stairs (for the ground floor) and it is readily accessible from trams on Swan Street. We'll definitely be back :)
