•Although the Newmarket Hotel’s been around since 1868, in recent years the majestic old building’s had a mighty facelift and refitting. Sitting proudly in the heart of Acland Street, the Newmarket is sleek and stylish while retaining a pleasing amount of the grungy personality that has made St Kilda the endlessly interesting destination that it is. Thanks to the ever-busy Six Degrees crew, the Newmarket offers both a casual sunshine-laden outdoor drinking area, and a more formal indoor dining space, as well as Chef’s Table for larger groups that number up to sixteen. The menu is inspired by South America, and stands out even in Melbourne, a town seemingly obsessed with the flavours of Latin America. Underneath the Newmarket, you’ll find the Cellar Bar, a luxurious dining room complete with live entertainment and a strict bookings-only policy. The Newmarket has fast become a favourite destination around Melbourne, for those seeking a casual post-work drink, intimate dinners, or swanky nights out.
Fresh air and sunshine fills this outdoor space. The Courtyard is perfect for smaller relaxed celebrations and parties.
Planning a much larger event? The entire venue is perfect for your next big celebration.
Below the surface is a moody space that awaits a party. Complete with a stage, exclusive bar, comfy booths and tables, the Cellar Bar is perfect for your next celebration.
Relaxed by day and buzzing by night, perfect for smaller celebrations and relaxed corporate events.
Sophisticated, charming, chic. The Chef’s Dining Room is perfect for a sit-down luncheon, corporate dinners or small celebrations.
Attended the bar to watch the Super Bowl. Food and ambiance were great. Female manager.was a little rough around the edges. Big screen was not clear and A/C was not working well in the front part of the bar… which made it very uncomfortable.
Newmarket for dinner last night. I was surprised the music was so loud given it’s not exactly the sort of place that has a dance floor. It made it quite difficult to talk but I did enjoy the delicious calamari and the sensationally seasoned sweet potato fries. I didn’t particularly enjoy being seated directly in front of the wood fired oven given it was a 35 degree day and especially since the Margherita pizza was underdone. Unfortunately the kitchen closed around 10pm or perhaps earlier and no one asked us if we wanted to order anything prior which we did. Clearly lots of shenanigans go on there as somehow several toilet seats in the woman’s toilets were broken. Really not sure how that happens but they should definitely replace them!
Great atmosphere and lovely and kind staff. Amazing happy hour too. Always great service and tasty food. Personally recomend the chicken burger and pizzas and have been told the vegan burger is delicious. Will keep coming back for sure!
Awful experience. The place was beyond freezing (tiny little bar heaters that did not come close to meeting the size of the room), the service non-existent and the food came way too slowly. When it did come, 2 steaks were thick and good, the other about half the weight and looked like roadkill.
Food was good but service was slow. I ordered the steak, as it was steak night and I would definitely not have been happy if i paid full price. The scotch fillet was less than 1cm thick and overcooked Would consider trying again in the future. Very proactive management who responded to my concerns. Thankyou to Laura and her staff. They have certainly redeemed themselves.
