I visited Rippon Lea Estate for my birthday and had a lovely picnic in the park with my partner. We went on a sunny weekday during the school holidays, so most of the other visitors were young children and families. We set up by the lake, across from a children’s show, and enjoyed a peaceful morning. There was plenty of wildlife around, and we watched the park animals come and go throughout our picnic. Many people were wandering through, birdwatching, and there were a couple of school holiday groups passing by, clearly having a great time. After our picnic, we took a stroll around the grounds. We didn’t go into the mansion or book a tour, as we were happy just exploring the gardens. It’s clear the park is well managed and maintained, with manicured paths winding through the gardens. It’s a relatively small area, so you can do a loop fairly quickly if you like, but we took our time and enjoyed the leisurely pace. You could easily spend a few hours here, and with plenty of school holiday shows on, there’s always the option to catch one of those as well. I definitely recommend visiting this beautiful garden and enjoying a picnic on the grounds—it’s a great spot!

I'd recommend that if you go to this place for the first time, you should probably go early to take a walk and have a look at everything. Remember to keep your map with you. There is a beautiful back garden and a small lake; it's worth the visit for just $15. The house is very well-kept, as there is no damp smell or any bad smell. The house is truly amazing; it feels like you are in a movie. The house looks better outside than in the photo.

Historic Rippon Lea Mansion is a must visit if visiting Melbourne. Beautifully preserved and maintained by the National Trust. You can pay to walk around the beautiful grounds and gardens, but the guided tour of the house is a must. You are taken through many rooms, and learn the history of the house and its various families. Guides are very knowledgeable. Only downside was no decent cafe on site (though you can get a coffee but only a biscuit on offer for food). Easily accessible by train from Flinders St station to Ripponlea Station then a 5 min walk.

Some friends and I attended Rippon Lea Estate for the Annual Regency Picnic 2024. Safe to say we were all stunned by how beautiful the manor and it's gardens were. Really affordable entry at $15.00 per person. Tours inside the main residence can be purchased for an additional fee. Central location, somewhat close to public transport. (Within walking distance) Parking is only available in side streets and I believe is limited to 2 hours on weekdays. Some areas of the residence and grounds are not accessible friendly due to steep hills/steps. ♿️ That being said, majority of the grounds are quite friendly for those who rely on mobility devices. A simply gorgeous spot to spend an afternoon with friends or family for a wander and little picnic. Would reccomend and will attend again!
