I'd recommend that if you go to this place for the first time, you should probably go early to take a walk and have a look at everything. Remember to keep your map with you. There is a beautiful back garden and a small lake; it's worth the visit for just $15. The house is very well-kept, as there is no damp smell or any bad smell. The house is truly amazing; it feels like you are in a movie. The house looks better outside than in the photo.
Historic Rippon Lea Mansion is a must visit if visiting Melbourne. Beautifully preserved and maintained by the National Trust. You can pay to walk around the beautiful grounds and gardens, but the guided tour of the house is a must. You are taken through many rooms, and learn the history of the house and its various families. Guides are very knowledgeable. Only downside was no decent cafe on site (though you can get a coffee but only a biscuit on offer for food). Easily accessible by train from Flinders St station to Ripponlea Station then a 5 min walk.
It's a beautiful mansion. Our guides were great and very knowledgeable. Shame the old owner Louise ruined it in her attempts to modernize it. Painting over the marble. Painting over the wallpaper. Painting over the gilt frames. I hope the National Trust decides to reverse her damages to the house. Anyone who tries to modernize a historic home (or mansion in this case) is a disgrace in my eyes. Plenty of on street parking. The gardens are beautiful with it's lake, out buildings and even a rather bizarre childs play area in the shape on a turtle shell. Public toilets are available in the gardens. $15 entry for adults
Some friends and I attended Rippon Lea Estate for the Annual Regency Picnic 2024. Safe to say we were all stunned by how beautiful the manor and it's gardens were. Really affordable entry at $15.00 per person. Tours inside the main residence can be purchased for an additional fee. Central location, somewhat close to public transport. (Within walking distance) Parking is only available in side streets and I believe is limited to 2 hours on weekdays. Some areas of the residence and grounds are not accessible friendly due to steep hills/steps. ♿️ That being said, majority of the grounds are quite friendly for those who rely on mobility devices. A simply gorgeous spot to spend an afternoon with friends or family for a wander and little picnic. Would reccomend and will attend again!
Great place to visit.helpful and friendly staff members.$12 entry concession,$8 for 1 hr guided tour of the house, well worth it.grounds are wonderful to explore.
