Thank you Aasha of OVOLO SOUTH YARRA! You made me so welcome and particularly thanks for your kind assistance in arranging refunds. So enthusiastic was I to stay at your fabulous Pop Art hotel, I absentmindedly made three reservations for the same nights! Thanks also to Toni at your sister hotel in Sydney for making telephone contact on my behalf. OVOLA SOUTH YARRA is sensationally well located in the eponymous, elegant suburb which boasts gorgeous cafés, bars, boutiques and restaurants. Yarra Station is one minute from OVOLA where you can catch a train and whizz to Melbourne’s exciting CBD and entertainments. The décor of OVOLA SOUTH YARRA and the warm buzzy vibe make for an exciting and memorable stay .
Had a weekend stay here and the room was the size of shoebox. Considering my already small frame, I still found it really cramped to move around. Funky hotel but the noise from outside was a big letdown. Aircon in the room does NOT work despite calling in multiple times with the reception to get it fixed (it’s much cooler in the hallway considering that was mid summer) and they gaslight you to thinking there’s nothing wrong with it/already been addressed which was quite irritating. Restaurant downstairs looked really cool but unfortunately we were met with an awful attitude/service from one of the ladies (the older one with dreadlocks?) that day. Really shocking demeanour. I can’t quite put a finger on it whether she was just having a bad day but she was banging our plates/cutleries and taking them off from our table aggressively. Luckily, the dumpling that I ordered was phenomenal and definitely a must try (again, but I don’t see myself ever coming back). Some things I’d give the hotel credit to is the amenities downstairs. Ample amount of entertainment and the retro vibes of the hotel was nicely done. It is centrally located in South Yarra too. I travel for work most weekends and I take time to write great reviews when hotels/restaurants/staff do a wonderful job— on the contrary, to write a poor review would take a lot from me but I find warranted… which was sadly my experience here.
This was a fantastic stay for one night in Melbourne. The staff was exceptionally friendly, professional, and accommodating. We enjoyed the fun vibe and decor of the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. The free laundry was a life saver! Wish we could’ve eaten in the vegan restaurant on the ground floor but it didn’t work in our schedule. All around a great experience.
Absolutely loved my stay here. The rooms and common areas are beautifully designed and the staff was extremely friendly. Really excellent service and I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone staying in Melbourne. The location is excellent with lots of great restaurants within walking distance and very close to the South Yarra station for easy access to the rest of the city. Rooms are a bit small, but would be perfect for a single traveler or a couple traveling together. I found the Boogie to be the perfect size for me. I want to especially commend the staff for their excellent service, going above and beyond to quickly fix any issues I had, give me recommendations, and make me feel welcome. A model of service in the hospitality industry.
Stayed here in one of the Groovy Rooms, with a view over Toorak Road. Whilst compact, it was extremely well appointed, clean and had a really great "vibe". From a location perspective - fantastic - was nearby to our dinner destination and right in the thick of South Yarra's Chapel Street precinct. Service - exemplary, in every aspect, from check-in across to handling our queries and requests. There was a small hiccup we encountered, but the hotel staff handled it so well and promptly, that it's not even worth mentioning any further detail. Love the small touch of the lollies at the lift entrance in the main foyer. Definitely will be back.
