This is more a review on the show rather than the theatre. We travelled down from Bendigo on Sunday, October 12th, to visit the Alex Theatre for the very first time and to see Oz The Cirque Experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were impressed by the energy and creativity on display. It’s fair to say the Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow played to their other performing strengths on stage, which made their characters engaging. The main cast delivered strong performances overall, and it was clear that a lot of effort and talent went into bringing this production to life. We opted for the VIP High Tea tickets and were really pleased with the experience. A highlight was getting to meet the Wizard during the tea, he introduced himself with warmth and playful banter, setting the tone for a fun afternoon. He also did a fantastic job on stage, appearing for most of the performance and maintaining great presence and energy throughout. Vocally, standouts for me included Elena Atanasovsk, Hannah Gardiner, and Jordan Twigg, who all gave beautiful and powerful performances. Special mention to Connor Putland for his contribution to the production, and to Will from the hospitality team, who served us, and made everyone feel very welcome. I’ve come across some rather harsh reviews about this show and the High Tea experience, but from our perspective, we had a great time. We didn’t quite know what to expect when we booked, but were we entertained? Absolutely. Did we enjoy ourselves? Without a doubt. While the performance did start a little late, I can only assume there was a good reason behind it. As a self-confessed musical theatre traditionalist, I still found this production fresh, fun, and thoroughly entertaining, and really, what more can I ask for?
The oz experience was a great night out , a modern.twist on an old classic the atmosphere , lighting , singing and show was fun and energetic .well done to all involved .
Oz The Cirque Experience at the Alfred Theatre in St Kilda was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The acrobats, singers, and dancers were all world-class and brought so much energy and magic to the stage. I especially loved Jess on the aerial hoop — she performed twice on my night and both acts were absolutely breathtaking. The lion, the scarecrow, the magician, and Glinda the Good Witch were all outstanding too — each performer brought so much personality, talent, and fun to their role. Every moment of the show was pure joy and left me completely captivated. Truly a spectacular experience that I’d see again in a heartbeat! I couldnt stop smiling!
Had to walk up 2 flights of stairs, toliets were down a long corridor off to the side. Seats were comfortable but arm rest narrow. Overall had a great time when watching the OZ experience.
The Alex Theatre in St Kilda is centrally located and houses 3 unique areas- two intimate theatre spaces and a large sitting area. The theatres are cozy, allowing you to be close to the action, and guaranteeing everyone a decent view. I love the quirky decor throughout the building, from the theatre poster decorated walls, period style lamps and the lush, decadent furnishings in the sitting area. Lots to see, I enjoyed my first visit there to see The Grinning Man- and I will be back soon, since I am about to purchase a ticket for Let it Go.
