Staying at the IHG Kimpton Margot Sydney was an absolute delight from start to finish. This hotel is a masterpiece of preservation, beautifully housed in the former Sydney Water Board head office. The art deco design is simply breathtaking; from the grand lobby with its soaring columns and stunning ceiling to the smallest details, it feels like a graceful step back in time. The service was impeccable—warm, personal, and genuinely thoughtful, without ever being overbearing. The complimentary social hour each evening was a lovely touch that created a wonderful, convivial atmosphere. Our room was a spacious and elegant sanctuary, blending historic charm with modern comforts, and the food at Luke's Kitchen was a standout, with stunning, flavorful dishes. We also loved the beautiful rooftop pool, a serene urban oasis perfect for a relaxing dip with a view. In all, the Kimpton Margot is a perfect blend of iconic history and vibrant modern luxury. I cannot recommend it highly enough and will certainly be returning. A truly special hotel.
We stayed for 2 nights, celebrating our anniversary. First impression wasn’t good, we had to wait a long time to be checked in, once we walked into our room we were left speechless; we had been upgraded to a stunning suite. Plus we had been left a bottle of sparkling with a lovely note. Pool area is cute but no one was there to serve us. Breakfast Sunday was a total mess, long queues, very shorted staffed. The poor staff was trying their best but there just wasn’t an adequate number of them. Monday breakfast wasn’t as hectic but there were also less people, In my opinion the breakfast provided is very basic for the price range. Room service was very good. Loved our room but it felt like they were very short on staff. Finally, there was a little nasty surprise left under one of the books in our lounge area.
Unbelievable place to stay. Historic old Water Board building with many original features alongside modern pieces making it a quality destination. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food and cocktails are magnificent. We had a great time during our stay and highly recommend it. Will be returning.
My stay was below average for a 5-star hotel at this price range. I was told that my room was “upgraded” but the view out the window was so bad that it was almost comical. My only window faced the inside so I could see across to the next room. It also meant there was barely any natural light. If I’m visiting Sydney, I want to enjoy the sunlight and views. They pride themselves on being “art deco” but it’s the same old carpet and decor as your typical Australian hotel, but with a funky picture on the wall. The service was inconsistent. Some people were extremely nice, while others treated me as if I were the reason they were having a bad day. The rooftop pool is nice, but the Sun loungers only actually see sun for maybe 2 hours or so. It started to get covered by shade around 12:30pm. This is unfortunate when the rooftop bar doesn’t open til 4pm Monday - Thursday. The room was spacious, but there was a brown streak on the shower wall and I’d rather not know what it was. The bathtub was nice but it flooded the ground when I drained it? Bed was comfy. And I enjoyed the social hour (free drinks from 5-6). The girl serving drinks was one of the friendlier staff. It was ok but I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to friends. Would come back to the rooftop restaurant/bar.
We stayed only one night at the end of our big Australia vacation to prepare for the long flight home. I used points and wish that I had stayed here for our longer sydney stay earlier in our trip - our room was upgraded to a suite that was very spacious and well appointed. The staff were super friendly and helpful and very flexible where we checked in late and they allowed us to use our credit through my points program even after we checked out as a very appreciated exception. The food at the bar was great and the DJ at Happy hour was awesome. Room was super quiet and dark with the drapes closed.
