The location of Pier One is perfect for one. What we also loved is the team, they are super friendly and helpful (which is not what we found in all hotels while in Australia). The hotel is busy in a good way as its super bubbly and lively with many guests on the pier terrace. A nice happy crowd. We never take breakfast in an hotel as we like to walk to a nearby coffee place and you have a few on nearby piers. We stayed 4 nights, 2 nights on the pier (you have a terrace on the pier!) and 2 nights on the top floor. Both rooms were great, it was super quiet upstairs. We loved it and will be back should we be back in Sydney for sure.
Not our first time staying here, always warm greeting, pleasant and attentive concierge. But this time I have to really acknowledge the fabulous service we received from Alex on the concierge desk. What an absolute asset to this already great hotel, he is and will be an absolute treasure to any organisation and should be really considered for future promotion and award. Nick the morning manager was absolutely fantastic very attentive making our breakfast better than usual, also great to hear he knows few words in Polish. Both a great new addition to the Pier one staff can’t wait to be back.
My stay at Pier One Sydney Harbour was a thoroughly enjoyable experience at this unique waterfront property. The room was absolutely lovely—beautifully designed and perfectly comfortable. What particularly impressed me was the room service, which was not only quite nice but also reasonably priced compared to other properties of this caliber. It's refreshing to find quality in-room dining that doesn't come with the usual inflated hotel premiums. The staff throughout the property were exceptionally friendly, with a warm and welcoming demeanor that made even our brief one-night stay feel special. The turn down service each evening was a thoughtful touch that demonstrated their attention to detail. The location is truly spectacular—Pier One is notorious for offering some of the best sunsets in Sydney, and the views did not disappoint. The property's historic maritime charm combined with this stunning harbourside setting makes it truly distinctive among Sydney hotels. Pier One offers excellent value alongside genuine hospitality and breathtaking sunset views. For those seeking a characterful Sydney stay with attentive, friendly service, this is a wonderful choice. My only regret is that we had just one night—would happily return for a longer visit.
Super old building, so that comes with creaky floors, a leaky ceiling, and exposed beams (which I kind of like). The elevators are super slow. Each room is supposed to come with an umbrella, but ours didn’t have one. At least the housekeeper was able to find one because they had run out at the front desk. They don’t have nightstands, but instead have thin shelves jutting out just above bed level, which is great if you enjoy smashing your elbow into metal. The shower has a clear glass wall that opens up into the living area, which can be covered by an opaque barn door. It’s rather odd because whoever’s in the bedroom while you’re taking a shower can choose whether or not they want to watch. There were two of us staying in the room and they gave us a welcome gift of one cupcake. Generally, I’ve found that Autograph Collection hotels are a tad more generous for Ambassador level members. Location is great, right by the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And the views off our balcony over the water were very nice. I think it would be a great place to host an event.
I stayed at Pier One years ago and had a great experience, so I decided to come back with my family. Unfortunately this stay was incredibly disappointing. We were placed in room 108, directly above the loading dock. At around 1:20am we were suddenly woken by the roller door opening, the reverse beeping of a garbage truck, and what sounded like compactors or bins being emptied. This went on for 15-20 minutes. My wife and I were both fully awake afterwards, but worse than that, our 1-year-old and 3-year-old woke up screaming and didn’t settle again for about 90 minutes. Anyone with young kids knows once sleep is destroyed, the next day is basically gone. Their naps and routine were completely thrown off and it ruined the first half of our day in Sydney. For a Marriott property at this price point, it’s honestly unacceptable to have waste collection happening directly beneath guest rooms at 1:20 in the morning. Room 108 is simply a terrible room placement for families. What frustrated me even more was the response from the front desk manager the next morning. I immediately asked to speak with him and explained exactly what happened. His first reaction was to tell me it “couldn’t have happened,” despite the fact I personally saw the garbage truck and he confirmed the loading dock was directly below our room. After a night of barely sleeping, being told the situation basically didn’t occur felt dismissive and insensitive. He initially offered us an extra hour at checkout, which didn’t really help because the kids desperately needed naps. I pushed for another two hours and asked if breakfast could be included since our morning plans were now gone and we’d be stuck around the hotel with exhausted children. The response was that they could offer “one breakfast.” I had to point out there were two adults staying in the room. It all felt like a very poor attempt to rectify what was actually a major disruption to our stay. To top it off, the room has virtually no ventilation or fresh air access. With two small children in one room, the lack of airflow became very noticeable very quickly. I was honestly going to leave it alone, but afterwards the hotel emailed my wife apologising and acknowledging the incident, meaning they clearly reviewed the logs and confirmed there was in fact a garbage collection at 1:20am. That made the initial denial even more frustrating. This was a really disappointing experience, especially considering how much money we spent for a family city stay. I genuinely hope management reaches out properly and takes this seriously, because the impact on our stay was significant and the way it was handled fell well below expectations
