Reviews for Pullman Sydney Hyde Park

I recently stayed at the Pullman on Hyde Park in Sydney and had a wonderful experience. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and in such a perfect location overlooking Hyde Park. From the moment I arrived, the reception team made me feel so welcomed. The staff member who checked me in (she mentioned she was still in training) was absolutely brilliant — incredibly kind, helpful, and patient. She set the tone for a great stay. The room was spacious and had everything I needed. The only minor issue was that the bathtub tap wasn’t working properly, but it didn’t take away from the overall comfort of the room. Overall, I had a great stay and would definitely return. The warm service and beautiful location really made it special. Highly recommend!

Great location with easy access to public transport options. The view to Hyde park was lovely. I travelled with two kids ages 9 and 12 - they wanted to pack the beds to bring home they were that comfortable. Bedding and towels had that luxury feel. The only downside was the pool area. Being quite small, it filled up quickly, particulary with large groups or family meaning that we had to leave and return a few times to access. It was also a bit disappointing that there was not smart TVs in the room.

The location of the Pullman Hyde Park Sydney is its strongest asset. It’s perfectly placed for exploring the city – a short stroll to Museum train station, a lovely walk through Hyde Park to the NSW Art Gallery (highly recommended for a lunch stop), and onward to Opera Bar. Pitt Street and George Street are an easy walk for shopping, and lunch at The Grounds of the City is close by. If you like to explore on foot, this hotel makes it very easy. The reception area, however, lets the hotel down. It felt a little dark, not uplifting, and could really benefit from a visible concierge presence to discourage the general public from frequently using the toilets. Lifts were slow – especially for the higher floors – to the point that we would have used the stairwell if that had been practical. There was a note in the room apologising for the lifts. We stayed in Room 1806, which was pleasant and had a fabulous view over Hyde Park and the War Memorial – a definite highlight. That said, when booking I specifically requested (both in writing and over the phone) a room with a window that opened. Reservations confirmed that the windows don’t open fully but do allow fresh air. Unfortunately, our window did not open at all, which was disappointing. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and there were more hangers than you usually see these days – a small but appreciated detail. The bathroom was fairly clean but a little dated compared to the main room. An extractor fan is badly needed, and a magnifying backlit mirror would have been extremely helpful for applying makeup – something we’ve come to expect in most hotels. I ended up using the table lamp to brighten the space. Tap water only was provided, which was fine by us. The oversized, heavy sliding wardrobe doors were almost impossible to move. This could be easily fixed – a candle run along the runners would do the trick. I used hair conditioner as a temporary solution, which worked surprisingly well, but guests shouldn’t have to improvise. The rooftop pool area was particularly underwhelming. It felt tired and dirty, the toilet was blocked, and while the receptionist told me food and drinks could be ordered via QR code whilst we wait for our room, there was no QR code to be found. An employee nearby didn’t know where it was either. He eventually found it on a glass panel at the side of the entrance. Once scanned, it asked for a table number – none of the tables were numbered. The menu itself was remarkably not customer friendly. Juice – one option, with no explanation of what it actually was. Beer – no alternatives - no spirits, no cocktails, despite there being bars on site. Soft drinks and soda options were poor. On a high-30s day, I was really looking forward to an espresso martini, a piña colada, or even a Sanpellegrino Limonata. The whole experience was so underwhelming that we left and didn’t return to the rooftop area. Our customer service experience was limited to check-in and check-out. The first receptionist was efficient offering service with a smile, though the room wasn’t ready as we arrived early. The second receptionist had difficulty understanding us. The check-out receptionist was also a little hard to understand but pleasant enough. A final tip – if you want good coffee and pastries, head just around the corner to Hendry’s (Darlinghurst). Absolutely delicious and worth the walk. Overall, the Pullman Hyde Park Sydney has an excellent location and a comfortable bed, but it feels like a hotel that hasn’t quite kept up with guest expectations - though the price was good. With some attention to detail, clearer service processes, and a serious rethink of the rooftop offering, it could be much better than it currently is. Photo is the view from room 1806.

We spent two nights at the Pullman and overall had a pleasant experience. Upon check-in, we were happy to receive a room upgrade, which gave us extra room to accomodate our daughter staying on the second night only. The staff member at check in was lovely and great Service throughout our stay. Our bags were taken to our room so quickly, they arrived before we got into the room from parking the car, I was impressed! The beds were great, the linens were clean, and housekeeping did a great job checking if we needed anything each day. The pool area was another highlight; beautifully designed, relaxing, and well-maintained & gorgeous view. We spent a good amount of time there lounging and swimming. The only downside at the pool was the limited food service; we couldn’t order any snacks or meals poolside, and the bar only offered beer and seltzers. It would have been nice to have light bites or non-alcoholic options available without having to leave the hotel. Service throughout the hotel was generally very good, staff were friendly, responsive, and professional. When we encountered issues, they addressed them promptly. The main negatives centered on the bathroom amenities and design. The in-room toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and soap) were provided in wall-mounted dispensers, but they simply didn’t work properly. Several were stuck, on arrival, so we had to call housekeeping for replacements. They sent new ones quickly, which was appreciated, but even the replacements frequently jammed or dispensed very little product, making showering more frustrating than it should be. Additionally, the bath/shower combo had poor design elements: the floor of the bath creaked noticeably every time you stepped on it, which felt unstable, and the exhaust fan in the bathroom wasn't working. After every shower, the room became extremely steamy/foggy. We ended up having to use the hairdryer to defog the mirror just to get ready to go out, an unnecessary hassle. The wifi network we connected to didn't work. I didn't bother looking into it as we just used our 5G data. Despite these annoyances (mostly confined to the bathroom), we enjoyed our short stay thanks to the comfortable room, lovely pool, great location and attentive service. We will likely return.

We enjoyed the stay. Hotel is well located and rooms were nice as were facilities. Unfortunately we waited at times up to 20mins for a lift to get out for the day. There were only 3 lifts and one was out of order which really strained the flow of people. We had to catch a lift up everyday to get out then stopping all floors on the way down. The credit card surcharge also made for a poor customer experience which was applied on top of the room price originally booked.
