ABOUT: THE DUNKIRK HOTEL PYRMONT
Built in 1879 and steeped in tradition, the iconic Dunkirk Hotel in Sydney truly has been Pyrmont’s local for almost 150 years. Formerly the Butcher’s Arms Hotel, it was renamed in the 1940s to commemorate The Battle of Dunkirk.
The Dunkirk Hotel underwent its first renovation in over 17 years in 2020/2021 - including the Main Bar, Terrace Bar, The Loft, new TAB Room, as well as a new Lounge now located at the front of the hotel on Harris Street. In July 2021, we launched our brand new boutique hotel accommodation - now two floors and 12 rooms of beautifully refurbished king, queen, family, double single, and single options with both ensuite and shared bathroom options. The hotel's bottleshop has had an upgrade and now stocks an extensive range of beer, spirits, wine, sparkling, and champagne. More recently, the hotel's facade had a complete 1930's restoration, re-establishing the Dunkirk as the proud heritage-listed institution it once was.
The Dunkirk specialises in Functions and Events, from the smallest get together to a large celebration. We have 2 private function spaces to suite all needs. One of Pyrmont's liveliest pubs, there is always something on at the Dunkirk. Whether it be live music, trivia, karaoke, members draw or a bottomless brunch. There is something for everyone at the Dunkirk.

Had a great value lunch at the Dunkirk, $18 steak. Excellent piece of meat, good fries and salad. Superb service throughout, do beers well. Multiple areas to drink as suits your mood. Relaxed atmosphere.

This place was the best!! I had my Hubby’s surprise birthday here. Communication from start to finish was awesome! Service was on point. The staff were so professional but chill. Love the vibe. Food was so good!! You will not be disappointed. Good portions and delicious. I ordered mini beef burgers, pulled pork sliders, pork belly bao buns and grill prawn and chorizo skewers. Had so many compliments on the venue, service and food. We hired the terrace bar. Beautiful space, private bathroom and balcony. I would not hesitate to have another event here. 100 percent recommend!! The whole team were amazing. Thank you!!

It was just a quick night for a place to stay. Very confusing where to check in, the bar was full & waited for people to be served to check in. We did get help with lifting our bags up the stairs. The room was clean & shared bathroom (hand soap was empty) Super noisy at night from the cars but they do have ear plugs if you need. Food was good but service from the two ladies who were from overseas had a bit of trouble making drinks & taking food order. Felt a bit awkward when we were told we could sit upstairs to then get told it was a private concert for $10 a head, two groups of people up there but full down in the bar, so we sat on the tables on the street.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights and it was great! Staff were lovely and welcoming, the beds were comfy and rooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy. The location is great and was very central to everything we planned to do as well as a short walk to the light rail. Fair warning though the street and the pub below can get a little noisy (especially during Friday karaoke night 😂) but the hotel kindly provided ear plugs which were great for blocking out noise. Will definitely be coming back for another stay! 😊

I have honestly never been so poorly welcomed in a hotel. On arrival, no one was at receptionjust someone at the bar glued to their phone. No greeting, no smile, no basic politeness, and no verification when we mentioned our reservation. Returning at 2 pm, the same happened: we felt like we were bothering them. Check-in was silent, with no help for luggage despite several flights of stairs. The room and corridors had a strong unpleasant smell, bathrooms were shared (not clearly stated for the price), and there was no soundproofing. The Wi-Fi code didn’t work.The only positives were the clean, comfortable bedding and the location. But this does not make up for the complete lack of professionalism and respect. A very disappointing experience for 125 AUD per night.
