Attended the bar to watch the Super Bowl. Food and ambiance were great. Female manager.was a little rough around the edges. Big screen was not clear and A/C was not working well in the front part of the bar… which made it very uncomfortable.

Newmarket for dinner last night. I was surprised the music was so loud given it’s not exactly the sort of place that has a dance floor. It made it quite difficult to talk but I did enjoy the delicious calamari and the sensationally seasoned sweet potato fries. I didn’t particularly enjoy being seated directly in front of the wood fired oven given it was a 35 degree day and especially since the Margherita pizza was underdone. Unfortunately the kitchen closed around 10pm or perhaps earlier and no one asked us if we wanted to order anything prior which we did. Clearly lots of shenanigans go on there as somehow several toilet seats in the woman’s toilets were broken. Really not sure how that happens but they should definitely replace them!

Christmas Day lunch today. My first experience of this trendy hotel and live music entertainment venue. Entrée: King Prawn Cocktail, a classic modernised. Yum. Main: Christmas Turkey sage and onion stuffing, chipolata (the gravy, yum); moist and delicious. With a side of charred broccolini, toasted almonds and almond purée. Dessert: Christmas pudding brandy sauce, whipped cream. Yes, please! All delicious and light on the tummy, and that's a plus as usually I only have one dish. Compliments to the chef. The only complaint is that the music was too loud. They did turn it down, but that lasted only a few seconds!! Will visit to experience the music, live Friday and Saturday nights.

I’m sorry to say this was the most underwhelming Parma I have ever had in my life (and trust me I’ve had a few). The Parma was soggy. Chips might had well have been classified as an endangered species - looked like a few had fallen off the plate on the way from the kitchen - and the salad was not as per photos advertised in the pub. It was in fact the most slimy looking ball of slaw’s one could imagine. Nothing goes better with a parmy than some crispy greens to make you feel somewhat okay about the meal. This was a sea of beige and a tidal wave of self loathing post ordering it. I grew up in st Kilda and knew of the Newmarket hotel in its previous incarnation. After recently moving back into the area, I wanted to give it a chance but once again gentrification has ruined the magic of a lovely neighbourhood of yesteryear. The one redeeming thing about our visit was the lovely bar staff. Apart from that - very sad to have this pub as my local.

Dined for a light dinner before seeing a show nearby. Ordered a serve of prawn tacos and the calamari. Also ordered a serve of sweet potato wedges that came with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce. All items were really nice. Enjoyed a cider and beer too.
