Reviews for The Cullen

We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay at The Cullen. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. We met Patrick on check in who was cheerful and welcoming. He assisted us with any questions we asked about the hotel’s facilities and was always interested in our day’s experiences when we walked past reception. The hotel is in a great location being across the road from the Prahran market and close to transportation to the city. The Prahran station is a short 5 min walk from the hotel with 3 stops getting you to Flinders St station. Our room was comfortable and equipped with small kitchen, dining table and couch. The art works by Tim Cullen are quite stunning and provide some interesting insights into Australian life.

I have worked as a nanny for over a decade, caring for numerous families, and never in my experience have I encountered such unacceptable behaviour from hotel staff. On Saturday, September 21st, I was with a family celebrating a special occasion at a hotel. The parents, along with around 30 guests, were enjoying a birthday celebration, and I was in another room with the children. Late in the evening, without warning, hotel staff abruptly kicked the family and their guests out. This decision was made with no explanation, even though they had reserved the rooms for two nights. The family, in shock and disbelief, tried to resolve the situation respectfully, but the hotel staff refused to provide a clear reason for their actions and went as far as to threaten police involvement. To make matters worse, one of the Cullen hotel managers verbally attacked the family, using inappropriate language toward the mother, who had done nothing to deserve such treatment. The next day they came back to the hotel and again hotel staff did the same. The mere mention of the police deeply upset their young child, creating unnecessary fear and anxiety. Despite being treated unjustly, the family remained calm and left peacefully to avoid distressing their children further. This experience has left a lasting impact, especially on the children who witnessed such hostility. It is disgraceful that hotel staff would act in such an inhumane and unprofessional manner, ruining what should have been a joyous family celebration. I hope this review serves as a reminder that businesses, especially those in hospitality, should treat all guests with respect and decency.

Location was great but sooo noisy! I wore earplugs so was able to zone out but I would be cursing if I didn’t have them. I unfortunately got a dodgy room at first, but the ladies were incredible in quickly moving me in the middle of the night after I checked in late and waived my mini bar and parking fees the next day as a courtesy which I really appreciated. Thanks so much for a good stay!

It's more a 4.5/5. Room deluxe twin, level 5. The hotel is quite artsy. Many painting everywhere. If you like that kind of hotel, then this is a good choice. It is very close to Prahran market, and restaurants and food options. The room itself was great. I got a upgrade to a deluxe room and even had 2 beds! Room was very spacious and bathroom was modern. There were 2 TVs as well. Although the two beds are oddly located like you can have 2 separate space and a common room. Either way, cant complain. As a Gold Accor plus, you definitely see and feel the warm welcome and amenity. In terms of service, check in and check out was fast. I appreciated that. Downside was that since I don't drink alcoholic beverages and the front desk asked that I replace the sauvignon blanc with juice as my choice. When I checked out, i clarified this point of swapping my welcome drinks which was confirmed. Hours later, I saw a charge for the drink. It would have been better if this was organised properly. Overall, it is still a great place to stay and will stay here again when in Prahran area.

Great hotel but won’t stay there again unless I was on my own. There is a thin glass wall between the toilet and the bed. No privacy. Shame because the rest is great.
