It is the most beautiful library that I’ve been ever. It has the most amazing match between modernity and historical place. I recommend visiting the photo exposition. The music and the atmosphere is awesome. If you need to study or work in Melbourne just go there or just for visiting is incredible experience.

Such an amazing space. Was surprised to see Ned Kelly’s armour displayed. So many people reading and working in this vast space. I came for the Rennie Ellis exhibition. I loved that they had comfy seating to watch the exhibition projected on a wall. A lovely frolic through Melbourne in the 70s + eras. They even have a cafe in there and a Readings bookstore! Well worth it just for Rennie’s exhibition. Lots of tourist photographing the internal beautifully architected library.

I don’t understand why the State Library is not advertised more. Everything is free, they have amazing art installations and exhibitions, children’s corner, quiet areas, specific areas to research ancestry and a gorgeous cafe attached. We went on the weekend and it was such a great day. You do need hours or days to fully explore - or regular short visits. Also amazing if you need to concentrate on something and need peace. We love NGV, the Museum and now also the State Library (again, it’s free!). Also, this is where Ned Kelly’s armour is kept.

Truly an iconic place to visit in Melbourne. Don't miss this stop. Please observe proper decorum by not talking loudly, taking photos discreetly, and not disturbing the peace in the Reading Room. Since this library is iconic, tourists sometimes tend to be loud unconsciously, disturbing those who are actually studying, working, or reading. There is an escalator that will take you to a spot where you can take a photo of the dome, the Reading Room, and appreciate the architecture of the building.

Loved the dome shaped reading room. Finally, made an attempt to visit after multiple visits to the city. Australian literature, law, business, architecture books, great for chilling and grabbing a book. Might not be the quietest place given the constant tourist traffic snapping pictures but find a nook and settle in for a quiet afternoon.
