The finest of all Melbourne libraries. One of the most visited in the world. Endless resources, countless study areas. Excellent wifi, 19th Century architecture, well staffed, stairs and lifts, many exhibits. Located close to busy Queen Vic & Melbourne Central. A must see for locals or visitors.

What an amazing building. We were visiting to see Ned Kelly’s armour but saw so much more. The dome room was awesome and definitely worth a trip to level 6 to get a really good view. Outside there were a couple of outdoor chess games set up and plenty of grassed areas to sit. Well worth a visit!

I had the pleasure of visiting the State Library Victoria, and I must say, it's a true gem in the heart of Melbourne. This iconic institution has been a hub of knowledge and learning since 1856, and its rich history is palpable in every corner. As I stepped into the majestic La Trobe Reading Room, I was struck by the stunning architecture and the sense of grandeur that pervades the space. The domed ceiling, the intricate details, and the comfortable reading areas all combine to create an atmosphere that's both inspiring and calming. The library's collections are incredibly diverse, with everything from rare books and manuscripts to digital media and online resources. I spent hours exploring the various exhibitions and displays, which showcase the library's treasures and offer fascinating insights into Victoria's history and culture. The staff at the State Library Victoria are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. They offer a range of services and programs, including guided tours, workshops, and events, which cater to diverse interests and age groups. Overall, my experience at the State Library Victoria was nothing short of exceptional. Whether you're a book lover, a history buff, or simply looking for a unique and enriching experience, this incredible institution has something for everyone. Some of the highlights include stunning architecture and historic significance, diverse collections and exhibitions, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and range of services and programs for diverse interests and age groups. The State Library Victoria is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and learning. Allow at least half a day to explore the library and its exhibitions, and take advantage of the guided tours and programs on offer.

It has a beautiful atmosphere (especially in the room in the photo below), lots of seats, easy to study in, has accessible clean toilets. I enjoy going here after school. The only thing I don't like is the closing time. 6 is quiet early, 9 would honestly be nicer. I struggle with focusing whole studying at home and my local libraries (they close at 7-8, but they're usually full of kids talking/yelling which I don't like), so it would be nice if it's possible to extend the closing time.
