Reviews for State Library Victoria

Famous library in Melbourne. A lot of tourists. Free entry. The architecture of the building was beautiful. The public toilet was clean. The staffs were very kind and helpful. Go up with the stairs of lift to see the overall library from above. In front of this library, there were 2 big real chessboard, free to use to play with your friends or strangers :)

This library made me regret not studying in Melbourne—it truly feels like the kind of place where I’d actually sit down and study hard. It’s both sacred and practical. The vintage-style chairs are not only beautiful but also surprisingly comfortable, the adjustable desks are super functional, and the lamps look like they came straight out of a movie scene. Aside from being a bit crowded, there’s not much to complain about. The kids’ area could use more books, but it’s still a great spot to bring little ones. Honestly, it’s perfect for studying, daydreaming, or even falling in love. A peaceful corner of a busy city—definitely a place to run into someone smart!

Melbourne Library is a fantastic place to visit and a major tourist attraction. The architecture is truly impressive, blending modern design with a grand, spacious layout. The exhibits are well-curated and provide an insightful look into history, culture, and nature.

The finest of all Melbourne libraries. One of the most visited in the world. Endless resources, countless study areas. Excellent wifi, 19th Century architecture, well staffed, stairs and lifts, many exhibits. Located close to busy Queen Vic & Melbourne Central. A must see for locals or visitors.

What an amazing building. We were visiting to see Ned Kelly’s armour but saw so much more. The dome room was awesome and definitely worth a trip to level 6 to get a really good view. Outside there were a couple of outdoor chess games set up and plenty of grassed areas to sit. Well worth a visit!
